So Xi Jinping was elected President. According to the BBC, one of the almost 3,000 delegates to the NPC voted against Mr Xi (perhaps Mr Xi himself?) and 3 people abstained.
The media are reporting that Mrs Xi, aka the prominent singer and PLA Major General Peng Liyuan, will accompany her husband to South Africa later this month. www.chinese-leaders/xi-jinping

Politburo member Li Yuanchao has been appointed Vice President www.chinese-leaders/li-yuanchao - a slight surprise for people who expected the role to go to former Propaganda Head Liu Yunshan (www.chinese-leaders/liu-yunshan). Li Yuanchao is considered something of a reformer. He missed out on a Politburo Standing Committee seat so his VP role is a little unusual, but he is definitely a Hu Jintao man.

Zhang Dejiang has been "elected" Chair of the National People's Congress. www.chinese-leaders/zhang-dejiang. Among the 13 Vice Chairs is Jampa Phuntsog from the TAR.

Yu Zhengsheng - www.chinese-leaders/yu-zhengsheng - was last week appointed Chair of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPC, the rubber-stamp "advisory" body). This means that Yu is nominally in charge of United Front work and therefore Tibet policy, although it remains to be seen how the Politburo Standing Committee decide to make decisions. Among 13 Vice Chairs we find our old friend Zhang Qingli (ex TAR - www.chinese-leaders/zhang-qingli), as well as Du Qinglin (www.chinese-leaders/du-qinglin), outgoing head of UFWD and Ling Jihua (http://chinese-leaders.org/ling-jihua/), the new Head of UFWD.

Tomorrow Li Keqiang will be confirmed as Premier of the State Council - www.chinese-leaders/li-keqiang - and we'll presumably learn who the Vice Premiers will be.

Then it will be State Councillors and Ministers...... "all change"
