NASAR’s Wilderness Emergency Care Pocket Guide is a quick reference for assessing and treating emergencies in the wilderness (or anywhere). It is based on NASAR’s textbook, Wilderness Emergency Care, by Steve Donelan. You can buy it from the NASAR online store (at the above URL) for $9.95.

The WEC Pocket Guide is printed on waterproof paper, and folds up to fit in your pocket. Unfolded, it is 11” by 18”, with 10 pages on each side. Many drawings and photos show you how to identify and treat the problems.

Topics include:

  • How to assess a patient with a serious problem
  • Treating injuries (wounds, sprains, dislocations, fractures, burns)
  • Environmental hazards (effects of heat, cold, and altitude)
  • Biological hazards (bugs, snakes, bears, contaminated water)
  • Medical problems (heart attack, stroke, diabetic emergencies, seizures, asthma)
  • CPR and first aid for choking.
