February 12, 2010

Dear Colleagues,

Please join us on Wednesday, February 17 at 1:00 p.m. for a statewide call on the governor's recent proposals to eliminate immigrant access to various safety net services.

Join CIPC's Statewide Policy Analyst Vanessa Cajina for an update on legislative advocacy, as well as a strategy discussion for ways advocates, grassroots groups, and service providers can come together to ensure that the legislature rejects the governors misguided proposals.

To register, follow the link below or email Garrick Wong (
gw...@caimmigrant.org).

We hope you can join us and look forward to speaking with you on the call.

Background Resources:

Governor Schwarzenegger has once again proposed to balance the budget on the backs of the most vulnerable, including children, the elderly, disabled immigrants and their families. His proposals to eliminate the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants, the California Food Assistance Program, and Medi-Cal and CalWORKs for newly qualified immigrants will terminate lifeline assistance to vulnerable legal immigrants.

For additional information on the programs targeted by the governor, including our recent publication The Cost of Cutting Immigrant Programs and sample letters opposing the cuts, please visit the rapid response page of our website:

Thank you for your continuing efforts to protect California's low-income immigrants and their families.
