This Wednesday afternoon Feb. 9th the Assembly Budget Subcommittee #1 on Health and Human Services is having a hearing at 1pm in Sacramento on the proposed cuts to CalWORKs and IHHS Programs.
Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed a 16% cut in CalWORKs grants that are already 50% below the poverty line. These cuts will affect more than 1.2 million poor children and their families.
CalWORKs grants are lower today than they were in 1989, when I was a single mother on welfare attending City College of San Francisco. Back then, milk only cost $1 a gallon. Today that same gallon of milk costs $4 or more. How low does Schwarzenegger expect poor families to go???
Below are the names and phone numbers of the legislators who are on the Assembly Budget Subcommittee #1 on Health and Human Services – if you live in one their districts, call your Assemblymember ask him/her to reject the cuts to CalWORKs and protect our state’s safety net!
If none of these legislators are your Assembly representative, call the committee chairperson, Assemblymember Jerry Hill.
