I hope the crane folding went well today! I have missed sitting with you all for several days now, and I'm missing you all.
I thoughts folks might be interested in participating in one or both of these things, thanks to Seminary of the Street for these announcements.

Urgent Update: Stand in Solidarity with Occupy Oakland Encampment
The city
seems to be planning another raid on the Occupy Oakland encampment,
which is now populated by many homeless people and people with mental
illnesses--an extremely vulnerable population that cannot afford to be
arrested. Please sign this petition (http://signon.org/sign/urgent-solidarity-with.fb1?source=s.fb&r_by=446078)
to show your support for this visible consciousness-raising part of the
movement. Please also be ready to come out in solidarity if we get word
that the police are staging. Large shows of solidarity have prevented
raids in San Francisco and New York in recent weeks. We can do it here,
too.
Contemplative Practice Techniques for Love Warriors
A system that relies upon exploiting
and harming some for the benefit of others requires a certain level of
denial in the populace in order to avoid being challenged. For that
reason, as well as for our own resilience and well-being, one of the
most important skills a love warrior can develop is to be present to
what is happening to us, in us and around us, and be present to the
working of the Divine. This is the starting point for taking what the
Buddhists call "right action." It includes developing the ability to be
present to difficult emotions, our own suffering and the suffering of
others, as well as being present to joy and possibility.
Participants in this three-part series
will learn techniques from different traditions that will allow us to
develop this ability to be present. These techniques include:
- Awareness practices, including Vipassana meditation and Centering Prayer
- Lectio Divina (holy reading) - a technique of reading scripture or other spiritual texts.
- Prayer of Examen - a way to review the day with presence, compassion, and openness to God's work in your life
- Metta - Lovingkindness meditation
