Hi friends,

Here at the headquarters of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, we are working on putting together another meditation event (like the one that originally brought us together to sit at Occupy Oakland on October 16th).  We really want to bring together voices, perspectives, and ideas, of those who have been on the ground across the country to this planning call!  Please see the invitation below, and consider yourself very warmly invited to be a part of this.  And thanks for continuing to offer inspiration to this movement!

Thank you,
Sarah

Dear BPF Chapters, Friends, and Transformative Meditation, Yoga, Prayer, and Wellness Occupy Groups,

You're Invited!

In light of the many of transformative consciousness events occurring at the various Occupy sites, The Interdependence Project and the Buddhist Peace Fellowship have teamed up to propose a large scale meditation "action" connected to the Occupy demonstrations for Saturday December 3rd, 2011.    We'd like to create a coalition of Meditation, Yoga, Transformative Prayer and Wellness groups to help bring mindfulness, groundedness, and loving presence into the various Occupy sites.

We'd like to have a conversation about what this might look like as well as create a forum to hear about how transformative actions have taken shape at various occupy sites across the country.   We're planning an open conference call for Monday Nov. 21st at 5pm EST/2pm PST

If you're interested in participating on December 3rd please let us know, and we'll keep you in the loop! if you're interested in helping to plan and organize, please RSVP to me, and we'll send you the conference call details!

To get us started -- some possibilities for the event could be :

1) Walking Meditation "Wave" - Participants walk for one hour from East to West beginning at 9am in their local time zones.  The effect is that there is a continuous walking meditation across all time zones from 9am at the eastern most location until 10am in the western most time zone.  (Exact times and details could shift around.)

2) Simultaneous Sitting Meditation at the Occupy Sites - We can coordinate time zones so that at Noon on the East Coast and 9am on the West Coast Meditators are sitting together for a period of time (1-2 hours) (Remember it will be very cold in some areas by Dec. 3rd)

3) Self- Organized  - Set a time and each group can self-organize what to do (walking or sitting meditation)

4) Nationwide or Global Occupy "Moment of Reflection" - Organizing with the Local General Assemblies to create a simultaneous 5 minutes of "silence and reflection" within each Occupy Site.

5) Your Suggestion Here...

If you can't make the phone call but are interested in offering your thoughts please send them to me and we'll incorporate them into the discussion.

In Lovingkindness and Peace,

Sarah Weintraub

Hi Sarah,

I am very much interested in exploring ways to participate in the Dec. 3 meditation action events here in the Bay Area.  However, it will be difficult for me to participate in the Nov. 21 conference call, as I am at work during that time.

I am wondering if it would be possible for the East Bay BPF to organize a separate, face-to-face meeting/ discussion of folks in the bay area who are interesting in helping to organize local activities for the Dec. 3 "Occupy" event, either before or after the Nov. 21 conference call (which I assume will include folks from all over the country).

Please let me know what you think of this idea.  I would be willing to help organize such a meeting, but would need others to help me.

Thanks,

Michael Sukhov

I'd be very interested in helping with this, and am excited about being part of getting East Bay BPF going again. It might be strategic to hold a meeting after the Nov. 21st phone meeting, once we know what folks are planning nationally? Since Thanksgiving is impending, maybe Sunday the 27th after Thanksgiving, rather than during the preceding week? Or is that too late?
