I
just heard about this from folks at East Bay Meditation Center - is there anyone
from our group that is already involved in the spirituality
subcommittee? Or anyone who will be at Occupy Oakland tomorrow to learn more about it and get us connected?
From EBMC's new development coordinator Cassandra Shaylor - "there will be an Interfaith/ Spiritual/
Religious tent at 14th and Broadway on Nov 2 and various orgs/groups
(including churches, synagogues, mosques, meditation centers) will be
taking turns all day holding that space for
reflection/prayer/contemplation/connection.
I am working with that Spirituality Subcommittee of Occupy Oakland, and
I am hoping that we will have the hours of 11am and 5pm to lead a
meditation at that tent."
With so much happening at Occupy Oakland this week, I'd love to meet with other folks after our Sunday sit for our weekly meeting at 1pm. It will be inspiring to hear about how the sits have continued every day, whether next to barricades or in the plaza. I would also be interested to hear about people's interest and ideas about how our meditation group might participate in the November 2nd General Strike.
Also FYI - East
Bay Meditation Center's Alphabet Sangha of LGBTQI and same-gender
loving folks is making plans for participating in the November 2nd
General Strike. They are having a meeting on Sunday from 2-5pm at EBMC to set collective intentions together and do some in-person planning for participating in the General Strike. I am planning to go!
Also, the Alphabet Sangha meets Wednesday nights from 7-8:30, and folks are organizing to walk down to Occupy Oakland after, perhaps with candles or chanting or to sit.
