Title: Processing Assistant, William Hewlett Papers

JCC: Hourly position, $22 per hour, 19 hours per week (Term position ends in May 2016)

Reports to: Project Archivist, William Hewlett Papers

 

Under the supervision of the Project Archivist, the Processing Assistant assists with the processing and description of the William Hewlett Papers.

 

Specific responsibilities:

·         Assist with processing William Hewlett Papers, including arranging and re-housing as needed.

·         Enter descriptive work into Archivists Toolkit according to guidelines set by Project Archivist and Project Director.

·         Identify sensitive material in the collection.

·         Assist with preparation of boxes for transfer to long-term offsite storage; including barcoding, labeling, entering container information and barcodes into online catalog (to enable online paging of material) and arranging shipment.

 

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree or three or more years of experience in an academic library, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience; prefer enrolled in MLIS program.

·         Working knowledge of archival repositories and their procedures.

·         Previous experience with archival processing preferred.

·         Knowledge of Special Collections’ collections management systems, specifically Archivists Toolkit (AT).

·         Understanding of basic preservation and conservation standards for archival and manuscript collections.

·         Familiarity with national bibliographic standards and access terms.

·         Competence in personal computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets.

·         Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

·         Demonstrated experience in using judgment and initiative.
·         Demonstrated ability to complete work on schedule.
·         Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals and groups across all levels of an organization.
·         Ability to lift 40 pounds.
