Iunderstand your question, and I often prefer this myself, although I know others had issues with the subs being too low as it takes their focus away from the main image, so this is really an issue of user preference.

This release has a change which standardises subtitle handling with other Emby clients and means features such as customisable opacity, background color, etc works the same for all apps, which is why you have seen a change.

I'm one of those who likes them higher for that reason and currently it's right at the bottom of the image for most movies which is perfect to limit eye movement on a large screen. Another benefit is that there's less blooming which all LCD TVs have when displaying text on a black background.

I know that this is user preference thing, but i think in every version subs were shown in very bottom of black bar and now we suddenly have them baked on picture, could we have it in middle like samsung native player i think its ideal position...

I update emby to new version 1.1.03, and now have problem. Model is ks7000 if I have external subtitle then emby show them maximum up on screen, if this subtitle is in mkv file then emby show them corect bottom on screen. Before update emby show all subtitle bottom on screen.

Using lord22 subtitle file which I downloaded it's not displaying at the top like his first picture, but in the correct position toward the bottom like his second picture. Maybe a difference in year models

ATV has this option on the OSD because every movie can have a different picture resolution and personal preferences of where it should lay. It only works with text based subs of course. Zero is the default, positive numbers moves it up and negative numbers move it down from the default location

Is your video cropped? Not sure if it's a ExoPlayer thing, or something else, but don't think you can move the subtitle outside the bounds of the actual video file. For material that isn't cropped you could of course move it below.

The latest Kodi and Plex, are showing the subtitle on exactly the same position. So, it is not a Exoplayer issue, because Plex use Exoplayer. This is really the only reason, why i still use Plex. I'm also Emby Premiere lifetime user. Would like to use emby fulltime, so i hope someday it will be fixed.

Not sure what you mean. Probably your issue is unrelated to mine? Just tested again Plex out of curiosity. Result is as expected. It is not possible to set to display subtitles at a fixed height in bottom of the screen, regardless of video frame. So when black bars are not part of video, you cannot display subtitles there..

Not necessarily as both Plex and Emby have modified Exoplayer. Plex couldn't always play outside the boundaries of the video either as this subject has been brought up before. I would add a post to the FR section if that's something you want Emby to look into because there may be others.

I'm with @GrimReaper though. They aren't "broken" now as all my UHD play within the video when I stick them into my disc player. I have subtitles on all the time and the further your eyes are from the center to read subtitles the more you miss of the actual picture. Options are always nice though.

I find at the start of subtitles - I focus on them to read them (and 'miss' any action on the screen) but after a couple of minutes, I can read them as part of the entire screen and thus remain focused on the main screen only without having to 'move' my eyes/focus. Maybe it's me getting old haha - just thought it was an interesting observation about how far away the subs are from the center of the screen.

Just based on several studies I've read on why most studios set subtitles to be viewed up higher (when played from disc). Wherever your eyes are focused you see best, and it gradually gets worse the further out from that circle you go. The best place to view a movie is of course with your eyes focused on the center. So, the further down you move your eyes the circle of focus moves to read the text and the more you miss above. Understand my wife needs subtitles on all the time and she gets no information from the sound. She can't just glance at subs real quick if missing a word or two.

Thanks - I guess the point I was making is I seem to have adjusted to read the subs without 'consciously' focusing on them - but yes, I certainly think that would be harder the further away they are from the main focus point.

PGS sub position is stored as an offset from the top left of the image. For a 1080p picture, you would need to move the subs up by 280 pixels to get to the same distance from the bottom they were on the original BluRay. This is because a 21:9 screen cuts off 140 from the top and bottom. The move must be 560 pixels for a 4K display.

When two lines of subtitles are displayed in quick succession, the first line gets pushed up. The position looks like Infuse tries to fit two lines of subtitle on screen at once. Even though they are still displayed separately.

If I fast forward the video to around the timestamp of the pushed up subtitle, the lines actually display normally. However when the video resume from even 5 seconds earlier, Infuse seems to decide the line needs to get pushed up.

For point 1, the line that gets pushed up is the same every time. The only time when the line does not get pushed up is as I mentioned in point 1. Depending on the video, there can be multiple lines being pushed up in one video but they are always the same lines.

As I mentioned in point 3, this bug only occurs when playing the video with the embedded subtitle. Unless the timestamps got changed during subtitle extraction, which I highly doubt, it seems that Infuse treat embedded and external subtitles differently.

Note that the accepted answer suggests an older version of the SSA format, using \aX instead of \anX. The numbers used in the older format are also different, and that format is considered deprecated. The newer format uses the numpad layout for the numbers. While SMplayer correctly displays both formats, VLC only accepts the current \anX format.

As far as I know there is no such setting in the .srt format (this is confirmed by this page), that will depend on the program you use to view your videos. For example, in the settings of vlc you have "Force subtitle position":

There is an extended SRT format specification. The link to visualsubsync merely confirms that this very program only supports the standard spec. It also implies that there indeed is support for coordinations and there is:

So now I'm editing a mission which require subtitles display on the screen. I've learned how to set a trigger connected with script and fired with condition. But whether I use BIS_fnc_showSubtitle or BIS_fnc_EXP_camp_playSubtitles for my subtitles, it always display on the bottom of the map, which it covered my DUI-squad radar icon. So is there any way to change the position of these subtitles? I want it to located under the middle of the screen, but not bottom. Could you guys explain the script in detail? Because I'm totally new to Eden Editor, especially I almost have no idea about script stuff. Thanks.?

Hi, this is something I've noticed years ago with Zoom Player when using SRT files and it's still going on today. I searched for the issue and I'm amazed I didn't find any posts from other people except from some ancient posts in other sites. Perhaps it's not Zoom Player connected but I post here since it's my only software player I use and trust for it's quality.

With VobSub the positioning simply doesn't work right. I would like to be able to position the subs anywhere in the vertical axis. Small adjustments are not possible. At some point if you enter absurd values then it throws the subs on the top of the screen, but nothing in between bottom and top. It is obviously buggy. What at least works is Font properties.
