Wehave been using Papercut since 2011. Very, very few issues with our HP and Xerox devices. The biggest issue is when a Xerox tech comes out to service a copier, they almost always flush the settings to allow on-glass monitoring by Papercut and we have to go back in and fix it. Otherwise, Papercut has been rock solid for us.

Thank you PDL for letting me know. I was hoping to hear that. Are you using the integrated scanning feature as well or the embedded scanning features on the MFD? Could you give me a couple model numbers for the HP/Xerox devices you are using as well please?

We do not use virtual queues or follow me printing. We use straight-up server queues. We did also have Chrome and email-to-print turned on (all from the Papercut server) however, we are trying to decrease printing so we have been narrowing down printing options.

I can echo PDL. We use Xerox AltaLink C8030 and C8055 and printing has been rock solid with PaperCut. We do not print from Macs but a bulk of our print jobs come from Google Cloud Printer over Chromebooks and that works excellent, including the finishing.

Are your Macs and Linux machines printing through a web browser by a chance? If so, the Google Cloud Print option may work out for you. The Xerox copiers we use allows you to print from cloud storage services like Drive and OneDrive, which is another option.

We install the printers directly on our macs right now from the Windows print server with lpd to allow for using advanced features such as stapling and hole punching. I thought about having virtual print queues for the different options such as hole punch and staple or staple or hole punch but then that got a little much so it was decided from above me to not split them out that way.

Buildings are all connected via fiber to core and then a remote office has a 1GB dedicated metro connecting the two locations. Everything is split out on different subnets (numerous for each building) except for the wireless, wireless all goes back as a single large subnet at this time (will change eventually).

I install all the accessories under the print driver, Configure, Obtain settings, (Turn Auto off) and click OK, then under device options pick your finisher and punch kit. Stapler is particular to the Finisher, so click on Finisher and then in the window below, Settings, pick your model, repeat for the punch kit.

Thanks, PaperCut reach out to me and mentioned that as well. I plan on upgrading next week which will hopefully resolve some of my issues as it is related directly to the firmware and models I primarily have.

We have a C3351 (and two others), but one will crash with just about any web page being printed to it. Konica is looking more into still but the last update was that the print jobs are becoming corrupt before they reach the printer. This only happens with the PCL driver, the PS driver works fine but I would like to use one follow me queue rather than two so I want to get this resolved. Note we are using the Universal 3.4.0.0 driver and we have tried their 3.4.1.0 and their yet to be public 4.0 PCL driver and have the same issues.

I am leaning more towards an issue somewhere hardware related but not sure. I guess since we are making progress with Konica support that we will see where that goes and I will update this once we have a resolution.

Thanks for the testing that Charles. Those colors are very similar to ours. Konica updated me yesterday and has not been able to duplicate the issue on their side either so I have some additional testing to do now that I know it should work. I should have testing done later this afternoon so I will update this later. They want me to strip all other drivers off the print server and test it without any other drivers on there. So instead of doing that, I am going to deploy a new server to test if I can replicate and also deploy a new Windows 10 box and test with that as that is what their tests were. Thanks again for the response.

Issue 2: I have setup the printer as 2 shares. one colour and one B&W. But issue 2 links backs to issue one, i can change the settings to gretscale but defualt which isnt editable changes it abck to colour.

I make a shared printer to default to ANY setting, log on server, right click driver, properties, advanced tab, then print defaults. Any changes here should now be the default settings for all users. FYI, greyscale is on quality tab.

In the testing phase of setting up universal print at my organization I noticed a lot of the printing preferences features are missing. When using Universal Print Class Driver I am limited to Layout settings and Paper/Quality. Some of my users need access to more than these preferences. The main thing missing that is needed is the Secure Print feature. If I change the driver to the Konica driver, the feature show up but, the Universal Print Driver errors out. Has anyone run into this on the Konica printers? I will list the printer models we have below as well as attach pictures of what I am talking about.

in my organization we use Universal Drivers from Konica for a long time and we have access to the options you need. We still use a version which is slightly outdated (3.2 or 3.3) but still functioning perfectly.

@Serge Malchair Hey, I'm talking about Microsoft Universal Driver. When adding the printers to the connector I used the basic Konica drivers. Are you saying I need to use Konica Universal Print drivers for Microsoft Universal print or are we talking about two different things?

@AdamK_DC / @JoshEberly - For best experience, printers need to work directly with Universal Print using the IPP standard protocol. Konica Minolta has announces firmware updates and printers that do so - -us/universal-print/fundamentals/universal-print-partner-integrations#k....

If you are using a connector, then what options show-up really depends on the quality of print driver being used on connector. Universal Print uses the Windows Print schema to identify attributes - however, some drivers use their own schema which can be very hard to interpret. For more details on how this is done, refer to the documentation. You may want to your printer OEM on whether they recommend a particular driver to be used on connector.

Regarding Secure printing - are you using PIN? For printers that work on protocols (instead of drivers), Windows added support for PIN printing in Windows 11. Universal Print printers work on protocols as well and PIN printing is supported provided the printer OEM has enabled the PIN option for their Universal Print ready printers.

Hi

I have the exactly same issue with Konica Printers (759e), the stappling feature is missing and this is really annoying. Did you find a solution ? I installed latest konica drivers but no changes.

Thanks @bouyaka. We appreciate your persistence with the solution and making it work.

Universal Print is trying to shift industry to "driverless" printing and use PWG's IPP standard. We understand there are printers that are not yet ready. We are trying our best to support them via connector. Sometimes drivers provide information in a very customized way that may not be understood by connector. Our partners are working hard to make it work with their drivers :).

Hopefully you can help others in the community as you get experienced with using Universal Print :)
