Hi Sigblip and friends,
I find that baudline doesnt seem to run under fedora 12, I get the following error:

$ bin/baudline_1.07_linux_i686/baudline
could not open 10x20 font
could not open 5x7 font
X Error of failed request:  BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request:  3 (X_GetWindowAttributes)
Resource id in failed request:  0x0
Serial number of failed request:  462
Current serial number in output stream:  463

I have bitmap fonts installed:

$ yum whatprovides */10x20.pcf
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
bitmap-fonts-0.3-9.fc12.noarch : Selected set of bitmap fonts
Repo        : fedora
Matched from:
Filename    : /usr/share/fonts/bitmap/10x20.pcf

bitmap-fonts-0.3-9.fc12.noarch : Selected set of bitmap fonts
Repo        : installed
Matched from:
Filename    : /usr/share/fonts/bitmap/10x20.pcf

Has anyone else come across this issue recently and found a solution?

Regards,
Ciphernaut

The X_GetWindowAttributes BadWindow error is being caused by some
missing fonts. Baudline needs the mono spaced 5x7, 6x13, 7x13, 8x13,
10x20 fonts plus a couple proportional ones. These are very basic X11
fonts that have been around for decades. I don't know why Fedora 12
has decided to remove them. Try looking for a package called X11-misc
or X11-fonts or xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-75dpi and install that.

For more information on baudline fonts read the comments at the bottom
of this blog post:

After the missing fonts problem is fixed, Fedora 12 has another trick
awaiting baudline. In Fedora 12 OSS audio emulation has been removed
from the kernel which means baudline doesn't have an operational audio
interface. No recording, no playing, but files can be loaded and
stdin/stdout works.

The simple solution is to use JACK or to wrap baudline with aoss:

aoss baudline

Issue persists on fedora13, trying to get all the fonts in place.

I don't have bitsream-courier, but adobe-courier instead:
-adobe-courier-medium-o-normal--10-100-75-75-m-60-iso8859-1

A number of the current distros may have standardized on the 'liberation' fonts which might explain why some of the others are missing....
