This unbearable times of the tracker has nothing to do with the search area size, in my case after a clean reinstall of windows 10 and after effects cc2020, began installing one by one every driver and program and trying the tracker after every single install. After this i found that what has been causing this problem was the program Acronis True Image 2019. Only needed to deactivate the Real Time protection and voila! Tracker worked perfectly again. Hope your problem is the same, otherwise you'll need to investigate what program is causing you the problem. If you are using a pen tablet check the drivers too, in my case the Wacom Bamboo mte450 driver was causing a little slow down on after effects too. Good luck!

Same issue here. I also reinstalled Windows 10 and formatted all my hard disks. complete fresh start. First thing i did was tested the tracker and its just as slow as before.. after installing my gpu driver its still slow. I dont have any programs installed. this is driving me crazy i invested in a 2,5k video-editing desktop and then stuff like this happens.. do you have any tips?

@Gasanfar, you are a life saver. I think Acronis would have been one of the last things I would have blamed. Unfortunately just disabling protection did not help for me. I had to kill processes all the time or as I did afterwards, just uninstalled Acronis.

I have been using After effects since 2003, and for the last 12 years of that time I use it almost everyday. This functionality is really useful when designing. You hit 'w' and rotate without needing to look away from the comp window - in 2d no need to click the axis - just the image - it keeps you in flow longer without breaking away from the visual. To hit 'R' and then have to look down to find the rotational value to slide or worst and slower click and type values - then look back at the comp. Much better to use the AE shotcut 'w' and rotate without looking away from the design. Works really well (when its not buggy as the op mentioned) - I think you can even hold alt to get into pressision mode.

I hate reading all of these ridiculous issues for the most basic things like playback. Why cant the software just freaking work the way its supposed to! When I use other software like MOCHA and Silohuette playback and caching are never an issue. These problems have plagued after effects for over a decade!

Longtime After Effects user (20+ yrs), never encounter this issue where it will not save project. Threw me a major curveball end of day yesterday because I didn't even realize it wasn't saving either my manual saves (I'm pretty consistent about manually saving every 15-20 minutes) or auto saves... even though the ususal prompt window was appearing and telling me it was saving. Did my usual Command-S and Command-Q end of day and was confused why AE was still open this morning. Shrugged it off, did a bunch of work then realized after a 'Save', then noticed the block in upper left red close button indicating file was unsaved. Ended up Force Quitting and lost about a combined 3 hrs work.

I am trying to create footage to be projected for a club night (this Saturday, pretty tight I know). The film has a still image for the first hour, after which it changes between different animations. The animations last for about an hour and I plan on looping them for 5 hours, so in total the film will be 6 hours. I need everything to be in the same video so I can press play and leave it to do its thing for the duration of the night. I can't loop the whole thing because I only want the still image at the beginning to appear once.

I am completely new to after effects and have just discovered I can only go up to 3 hours? What is the easiest way around this? Would it be to render out the footage from after effects in two halves and put them together in final cut pro?

Hi Jordan. I would strongly recommend that you do as much of this as you can in FCP and render from there - particularly the still image. What are the animations that you want to do? Can they be done in FCP (or Premiere Pro for that matter if it has more bells and whistles)? After Effects is a complex beast and your render times would be massive (possibly days if you are doing complex effects and animations). I don't mean to be too negative but as a complete beginner I suspect you will be driving yourself crazy before too long and be in danger of not having a product at the end of it. After Effects is not an intuitive program and it takes a fair amount of time to get to understand even the basics. However, it is possible to do sections in AE and then take them into your editor, but doing the lot would be a very demanding ask for a novice.

Hello Adobe - Same or similar issue with me. Just upgraded GPU to gtx1070 thinking that was it. I had spent several hours with support thinking they had solved the problem with clicking mercury transmit, but no.. started again. (then I bought the 1070) It sometimes crashes AE, other times crashes system. My error msges alter from "out of memory; requested.. etc" to "unexpected store" and others. I will click it shut and more windows pop up with new error msgs. No known action seems to create the problem. Doing relatively simple animation with photoshop files and Character Animator files. Sometimes can have many effects without error, and other times hardly any effects with error. It just happens when it wants to. Been going on for a month now. need to get work done.. please help.

I've been getting the same crashes with the "requesting memory error" over and over. Suddenly, I got an additional error along these lines, "myprojectname requires too much memory to rasterize layers". It finally dawned on me that I had A LOT of layers with the 'continuously rasterize' box toggled on and that is what was sucking up all my RAM. I toggled it off, restarted AE, and my RAM usage went back to a clunky +90% again after a few minutes, BUT it went back down to a smooth and steady 60 - 70% after that. Perhaps AE first uses up all the allocated memory THEN starts offloading to my external hard drive cache? Perhaps it was bottlenecking on all those rasterized frames before? Who knows. It works much better for me now. Hope this helps someone else.

Same issue here, got a new MacBook and after effects was working fine up until yesterday, ive reset my preferences, reinstalled after effects, tried using after effects beta even though I can't use my plugins with it, someone from adobe please help because I have deadlines and at this rate I doubt my project will be finished by then.

All i did was go to Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware and i disconnected the headphones i was using, after it it was fine and running and i've connected them again and it's all going smooth : ). THIS IS CORRECT

It actually worked... Who would have thought to search for the problem there?
Adobe should really work on bugs like this.. Small problems like these happened to me in almost every adobe app and it just kills your workflow.....

Acquired in 1994 by Aldus, just one year after launching the program, the program gained amazing new features like multi-machine rendering and motion blur. But, before the year of 1994 came to a close, Adobe came in and acquired the technology, and is still the owner of After Effects today.

For example, you can add lighting effects or create really cool smoke trails that look like objects are flying through a city. Here's a fun tutorial that we put together utilizing After Effects as an animation tool.

You can download Adobe After Effects for free for a limited time trial. This gives you seven days to try it out and to create incredible motion graphics and visual effects for film, TV, video, and the web.

after updating to MacOS 12.3 I have not been able to open project files (Premiere/After Effects) without errors of not finding files that are in dropbox as 'online only'. Prior to the Mac update all files would auto download to be on my machine locally. I know there's an issue with full support for OS 12.3... any updates or solutions folks have found?

Adobe After Effects is a visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing app used in the post-production phase. Specifically, people use it when working with videos made for TV and film. After Effects was first created by the Company of Science and Art in 1993, but it was later acquired by Adobe for use in their Creative Suite of apps.

Adobe After Effects can be used to take your video to the next level by adding a number of special effects. It can also be used to animate characters created with Photoshop or Illustrator. A decent grasp of how to use other Adobe tools is often necessary for getting the most out of After Effects to create these stunning displays.

With Adobe After Effects, the files are copied and imported so the original files are unaffected. Then your After Effects expert will edit the files, making animations and illustrations 3D, altering colors, enhancing the video by adding transitions, backgrounds and special effects.

Adobe After Effects is an advanced motion graphics, effects, and compositing application for both Mac and Windows. While Premiere Pro would be used to edit an entire video project, After Effects is typically used to design or to change the appearance of individual video clips. The following resources show and explain features of this application.

Keyframing and layering effects take time, but with some handy keyboard shortcuts, you can cut your editing time down significantly. By effortlessly switching between tools without having to navigate endless menus, you can stay in your "flow state" and get projects done faster.

Whether you're new to After Effects or a seasoned pro, shortcuts will help you reduce your editing time and make it easy to stay focused on your work instead of fumbling through menus. Save this handy list to your bookmarks so you can quickly access it anytime you find yourself mumbling, "what was that shortcut again?" at 2 AM after a marathon editing session.
