I am trying to connect to ghini.desktop with ghini.pocket the connection is refused because the user is not known. Is there a default user name that I should use?

Hi Andrew.  the pocket/desktop connectivity is still getting shape and depends heavily on the versions of the two programs.  I am reviewing issues and I need to alter part or the API, related to pushing pictures.  I should enforce some API versioning, too, so if your pocket speaks a different dialect than the server, it will warn you.  please mention your desktop/pocket versions.

said this, from your question I understand you did not hit the documentation, or the videos, did you?

the video goes quick.  it lasts just 2 minutes, but please reserve at least 5 for watching it, pausing, stepping back, checking that you completely understand what is going on.  there are hardly any superfluous words in the subtitles.

this describes desktop-3.1, but 1.0 works just the same.

I recently tried the pocket server on a Windows machine and it did not manage to PUSH data.  I hope you're using unix.

you can help me make them more visible by telling me where you looked for information, or where you expected to find some, and you didn't.

ciao,
Mario

Hello Mario

Thank you for your reply.

Perhaps I didn't give enough information in my original post.

I had my android phone connected to my Debian OS laptop and from the ghini.pocket I tried to connect to the  dektop ghini db using the settings as shown when slecring "pocket server" from the "tools" menu. I used my login name for the laptop and the server address, port and registration code from the pocket/server dialog. However I received an error message stating that the connection was refused. The desktop databse is a SQLite db created when I first ran ghini.desktop.

After that i found the instructions for setting the android device as "developer" and followed the instructions on how to "push" the data from ghini.desktop to ghini.pocket, again the connection was refused. I will watch the youtube video and try again, I will let you know how it goes.

Finally, a question, is it easier to push and pull data if using MySQL?

Regards
Andrew

there is no need to register any specific login name.  any name you
register will be the name used for contributions from that specific phone.

connection refused means that the server is not running at the given
address:port combination.

no need to do this.  I'm afraid I left some outdated documentation
around, describing quite a different method.

yes please let me know.  and whenever you say "the documentation" or
"the instructions", please also do mention the URL and the leading phrase.

no, it does not make any difference.  there's an API and that's
independent of the SQLAlchemy engine used.

you forgot to mention the desktop/pocket versions combination.
