I was watching the pilot miniseries again, and there were a few things
I noticed.

Adama replies to the President in a tone that seems almost as though
he is simply agreeing to placate her. The fact he is buried in
several stacks of old books leads one to think he knows more than he
lets on. IE, he knows Earth is out there, but doesn't know where.

It was also curious how the Cylon on Ragnar station talks about how
"you hid a fleet here." The civilian fleet hadn't arrived yet. No
military fleet was present at the time. Since they had to know they
were preparing for a full series, I wonder if the writers don't have
some plans to have Galactica come across other colonial ships. IE,
like the Pegasus/Living Legend episodes of the original series.

Reading the spoilers from the UK, it starts to become clear there are
other military units still operating even in the late stages of the
war.

You miss a lot of little points watching the three hour version.
