I think that worrying about the group dying is a trifle premature.
We've just gained some new members (welcome, all!), and I'm considering
posting the address of this group to the discussion list, which ought
to bring in a bunch more people. That's especially true in light of
some of the discussion going on there about the purpose of that list,
and how it was supposed to be more or less free of the flamewars that
ultimately led to the old list's retirement.

Here, it's much easier to ignore someone else's flamewar, because
(assuming you're reading through the Google Groups interface) it'll
just appear as one thread...and you can just pass it by and go on to
the other threads.

Ahem, I use gmail, and the disc list flamewars do appear as only one conversation.

That will also be true on many other modern mail clients that support threading, of course.

*shrug* This just gives *everyone*, whether they use a threaded client or not, the option of seeing things threaded.

I, personally, use threads on some of my mailinglists, and don't use threads on others--including the discussion list.

I use Gmail as well and the Discuss List threads okay for me *usually*.

It's only when someone adds a "Re:" or a "RE:" to the subject header
that Gmail splits it. Then, if the conversation is a long one, I can
have about three different threads to read through.

Couple that with my need to respond as soon as I've read something, and
I sometimes repeat things that someone else said, but only on one of
the other threads...

I've heard a lot about Thunderbird, but little about specifics; can
Thunderbird handle the above problem?

I think that Thunderbird may also thread the way GMail does--by looking
at titles.

I'm very, very fond of Apple's Mail.app, which threads by using a
particular header value, that actually indicates that mail X was sent
in response to mail Y (I think). If you use a Mac, I highly recommend
it. If you don't use a Mac, I highly recommend getting one ;-)

No, don't mention it.
I am totally in love with Brent. And Skull.
