Job Title: WebSphere Commerce Database Administrator

Location: Remote

Duration: 12 Months

 

Role Description:

The WebSphere Commerce Database Administrator is responsible for engineering and supporting database servers in multi-tier e-Commerce environments. The most prevalent e-Commerce platform supported is IBM’s WebSphere Commerce. Typical supported accounts are setup with development, test and production environments to facilitate proper System Development Life Cycle processing. The individual serving in this role is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining primarily DB2 databases from both a physical and logical perspective. This includes everything from object creations, managing security, performance monitoring/tuning, managing/implementing data retention policies, and planning/implementing disaster recovery architectures. The WebSphere Commerce DBA works closely with large, diverse, transient application and infrastructure teams to support and manage complex database environments. It is essential for this individual to be able to drive solutions through to completion. As we are serving in a consulting role, issues will arise that this individual needs to articulate the priority of and assume ownership of ensuring the solutions are rolled out.

 

Primary Objectives and Responsibilities:

  • Administering DB2 11.x, 12.x) databases from installation, tuning, maintaining, upgrade and configuration on Linux/Unix platforms
  • Architects and Implements DB2 HADR feature; develops and implements backup/recovery strategies
  • Acts as a member of the production infrastructure team in the maintenance, troubleshooting executed against mission critical, 24x7 WebSphere Commerce production environments
  • Implementing shell scripts for database management and automation
  • Analyzes logical and physical database design to account for performance and scalability at all database layers
  • Assists in troubleshooting application (typically J2EE) issues related to database performance and bottlenecks
  • Performs development, maintenance and enforcement of database standards
  • Administers implementations of HCL WebSphere Commerce DBClean and Staging-Enablement Setups

 

Secondary Skills/Experience:

Include the following: these are not required but could prove to be beneficial.

  • Administering MySQL databases
  • Administering products on the Windows OS Platform

 

Education and Experience Required:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree Computer Science, Engineering or a related field and a minimum of 5 years Database Administration experience, including a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a DBA with DB2 (Linux /Unix/Windows) within a 24X7 production environment.  The incumbent in this role consistently demonstrates excellent project and people skills within a team environment, effective verbal and written communication skills and a proven ability to maintain leading edge skills in a rapidly changing information systems environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience in larger scale DB2 installations in an OLTP (WebSphere Commerce) environment, system administration and programming experience on Linux (strong preference), a deep understanding of the interaction between DB2 and the underlying operating system and hardware, in addition to the following:

 

  • Extensive experience with Database monitoring and modeling tools
  • Working experience with WebSphere Commerce database components: DBClean, StageProp, Workspaces, MassLoad, BODL, DataLoader
  • Working experience with WebSphere Commerce database logical model
