@milad.a I think the problem should be resolved now, btw, remove or update vazir-fonts package, I didn't add it as a conflict, to make it act as a decoy of this package, but I think I should reconsider that soon

I am using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and I want to change its default Persian font because I think it looks bad. And I don't want to change the default English font. Is this possible? If it is, how should I do this?

vazir font

NOTE: The lang property must be ISO 639 compatible language tag, and Persian is tagged fa. But with fa it didn't change the fonts (I don't know why. I hope it works for you with fa), so I used az (Azerbaijani).

Hi
The default font for Persian language it's ugly as hell in every Linux distro & there is no easy way to change the font just for Persian language & if you change the default system font now English font becomes ugly too...!
What is the solution?
PS: there is a beautiful free Persian font like "Vazir" why Linux distros don't use it?

algent I mentioned the download link myself but the problem is you can't change the system font for just Persian language! when I change the system font to vazir font for example, the English will be messed up

I got Vasir fonts from Arch and tested them in Solus Plasma. The whole Plasma UI is set to use Vasir Regular as default system font. Kate editor is also set to use Vasir Regular as default font. English and Persian text looks equally well with Vasir.

just
I haven't use Plasma but in Gnome - Budgie - Pantheon & Cinnamon all use an ugly font for Persian and everything looks ugly
I can show the difference, I have taken two screenshots from same webpage
1: showing with default system font

2: with a browser extension named FontARA showing the webpage with Vazir font

You could see the difference
but because it's not a system font all-around a the OS looking bad & hard for reading for Persian speaking people
PS: I don't know the "Vasir" font you talked about its the same as "Vazir" font that i mentioned
PS2: Just because your not familiar with the Persian language it's not Arabic Language even alphabet it's different.

Sorry, but I cannot see big differences between two images in your reply. I see that many characters have different form (shape), but the font itself is rendered - drawn - well for me, in both images. Probably the difference in character form is what you're calling "ugly".

The whole text inside Geany is typed in using Vazir Regular 22 pt as well. I added to Gnome two keyboard layouts - Arabic and Persian. Keyboard layout is the only thing which changes inside Geany. It goes from English (US) to Arabic, then to Persian.

Everything on the picture - Geany interface and the text inside it - uses only Vazir font. Arabic and Persian characters (letters?) have slightly different form (or shape), which is probably looks ugly for you. But the font itself is rendered well, for my taste, in all three languages.

I realize that not being Arabic or Persian carrier I can't figure out your needs completely. Just tried to demonstrate that Vazir looks technically well in Plasma and Gnome in all three languages at the same time. There's nothing ugly in them.

You do not say which desktop you are using. If it is KDE, you can install new fonts via System settings>Fonts>Font Management. You can then change the desktop fonts in System settings>Fonts>Fonts. If you install them as personal fonts or do an online upgrade to the next version if you have installed them as system fonts, you do not have to reinstall them. If you have installed them as system fonts and you do a reinstall, it only takes a few minutes to install them again if you are using KDE.

Hi
My dear friends, I live in Iran and our language here is Persian.
Unfortunately, I ran into a problem in Arch Linux and I can not solve it!
I want to create a font config file for me.
For Persian fonts, use Vazir font.
Use Ubuntu Regular fonts for English fonts.
That is, vazir should be used wherever there was a Persian font and Ubuntu Regular should be used wherever there was an English font. Please help me because I searched a lot and even used my Google content, but it did not come back and everywhere I type in Persian, unfortunately it uses the Arial font, which I want to use the Vazir font.

What font configurations have you tried so far? What application are you encountering the issue in? Are the text elements you want to use different fonts marked as separate in the application and assignable to a separate font?
If not do you want a set of glyphs to use Vazir and the rest to be rendered in Ubuntu Regular?

But unfortunately, I repeat, it did not work properly and aria Persian fonts in Chrome browser, mousepad, terminal and everywhere where I write Persian font, it is displayed to me arial and it looks really bad and all fonts It confuses.
Thank you for helping me to be able to display Persian fonts with vazir and English fonts with Ubuntu Regular everywhere on my Linux. I really tried, but unfortunately it is not right if you help me and I solve this problem, thank you very much .

How did you determine the font name to match was Ubuntu Mono Regular? What package provides that font? Why are you editing /etc/fonts/fonts.conf that will be overwritten? Font_configuration#Fontconfig_configuration
Even if Ubuntu Mono Regular was set as the default mono fault what in the configuration was supposed to set Vazir?

I am a beginner, I do not know and I do not know
Can you please tell me exactly what to do? Do not edit fonts.conf, so what file should I edit? Thank you. The same code fonts.conf is what I want you to give, that is, you can easily write that the vazir font is for Persian fonts and then the Ubutnu Regluar font is for English fonts. Write the same in the fonts.conf file and leave it to me. Please send thank you.

Dear friend, finally there is a way that I can define two fonts wherever you say, but it should be done and my writings should be read with those fonts.
Vazir font for Persian
Ubuntu Regular font for English
Is there a way? To do this? Or not?

Vazirmatn font (formerly Vazir) is a Persian-Arabic typeface family with 9 weights, which was started in 2015 under the name of Vazir with the idea of a new, simple, and readable typeface suitable for web pages and applications.[5][6] From version 32, the name of Vazir font was changed to Vazirmatn.[7][8] The design of Vazirmatn has been done in FontForge. For Latin letters, Vazirmatn is combined with Google's Roboto font by a build script.[2] On February 17, 2022, it was announced that this font was added to the Google Font collection on the Vazirmatn font GitHub page, and it was added to Google Fonts on March 10, 2022.[9] Vazirmatn font (version 27 and later) supports Persian, Arabic, Iranian Azerbaijani, Kurdish, Pashto, Urdu, Gilaki, Uzbek, Kazakh and Balochi languages.[7]

After months of fighting cancer, Saber Rastikerdar died on November 14, 2023, at the age of 36[10] and was buried in the artist's plot of Razvaniyeh cemetery in Fasa.[11][12][13] Before that, he had announced on his personal blog that he had found a pelvic tumor and as a result of a stage IV cancer.[14]

I had a similar problem while using an old polybar config. The problem i was having was because my font (in my case SpaceMono) did not include any nerd font symbols, after switching to using nerd font the issue was fixed.

when I run mix assets.deploy my /assets/static which includes images, fonts, js, css and etc are not compiled and I just have a folder in /priv/static/assets which has these file app.js, app.css not the other file I need like phoenix.css and extra css and js file I have on /assets/static

when I run mix assets.deploy, they are converted to a single file like app.js or app.css if I want to load files directly on my html I should move the file to priv/static manually, after that I can load it on my html like this

it should be noted on phoenix 1.6 Map.get(conn.private, :phoenix_live_view) was changed, if you used it on liveview side you have to change your code but if you used it on api base phoenix project you do not need to change your code

Despite looking like normal packages, simply adding these font packages to your environment.systemPackages won't make the fonts accessible to applications. To achieve that, put these packages in the fonts.packages NixOS options list instead.
