The god of knowledge, Ishwar Buddhidev, visits the Parekh family, consisting of the elder Babuji, his eldest son Praful, Praful's wife Hansa, Hansa's brother Himanshu, Praful's little brother's widow Jayshree, Hansa and Praful's daughter Chakki, and Jayshree's son Jacky. The Parekhs drive the god crazy and he runs back to heaven.

The Parekhs are informed that Hansa and Himanshu's father is on his deathbed. Before dying he states that his last wish is to fulfill Himanshu's dream. Himanshu reveals that his dream is to have a legendary marriage. But after getting rejected by hundreds of brides, he falls in love with their neighbour's daughter Parminder Kaur. The two get engaged. On the day of the wedding, Himanshu realises that his marriage is not legendary, as it lacks thrill and adventure. The Parekhs stall the wedding and try to turn the Parminders against Himanshu so the two get broken up and then have a legendary reunion.

The Parekhs decide to rob Parminder's close friend Chakku Singh's house, but they discover that Chakku has been murdered and the police arrest Himanshu as the suspect. Parminder's brother breaks the marriage but it is revealed that Parminder is marrying another groom tomorrow. During the court hearing, it is revealed that Chakku is alive and confesses that he committed suicide and Himanshu is released.

The film released on 1 October 2010 and became the first Indian television series to be adapted into a film..[2] The film faced stiff competition from big-budget movies like Priyanka Chopra - Ranbir Kapoor starrer Anjaana Anjaani and dubbed Hindi version of Aishwarya Rai - Rajinikanth starrer Enthiran (Robot) and in the end its performance at the box office was termed hit.[4]

I am sure this kind of a film has an audience, but they were sadly missing today from the hall. So, if the makers thought that the audiences were eagerly waiting to welcome the Parekh family back to the theaters, then I guess there was some miscalculation. Being one of those who hates to run down a film, I tried finding some positives about it. The only being, the performance and expressions of Supriya Pathak throughout the movie and to some extent the look of the film and the colourful cinematography.

Filmmaker Aatash Kpadia in his mission to craft another tale of craziness, ends up trying to tickle us to laugh. The story of Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan goes this way, Rajeev Mehta transforms into an emperor with a beard, moustache and royal clothes. The family is out on a mission to save Paanthukistan from the clutches of a cruel emperor and in this process they are up to their regular comic behaviours which are mostly forced. But I am happy that in such grim times, at least some filmmakers felt the need to make a comedy, but I never thought that the film would turn out to be so mindless.

As I mentioned earlier, the look of Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan was brilliant with landscapes to die for from serene beaches, to a flight in the cloud, hustle-bustle of cities to snow-clad mountains to the harsh scorching deserts. But some how the visuals too were not stitched well.

I am not looking for an iota of reality in this film, but the whole idea of, Parekh family coming to the save the people of Paanthukistan is a bit too hard to digest. The makers should have understood that Khichdi is making a comeback to the big screen after 13 long years, so the audiences are not the same. The taste of the viewers have changed and they have evolved from what you have seen them back then.

I can quote this movie word for word. Not everyone's cup of tea tho. There are some scenes like Golden Fort, hospital bell, and Jaipur signal, that bring tears to my eyes. Also, I want whatever Hansa and Praful have.

And Khichdi The Movie is just as mindless a comedy as the television show.

All the characters are similar to the serial, and very likeable. The makers have not made too many changes in the film, and have retained the Khichdi magic on the big screen.

The gags are childish but funny -- right from the Eshwar (played by Satish Shah) sequences to the serving of pani puri at a condolence meeting up to the climax. All of Himanshu's (J D Majethia) neighbours are named Parminder, so it becomes easier to remember one name instead of all 60 people.

But sequences are over the top but still, they manage to amuse you.

The movie -- written and directed by Aaatish Kapadia -- revolves around Himanshu, who wants to have a memorable love story but doesn't have a girl. Luckily, his neighbour Parminder (Krithi Kulhari) falls in love with him and they get engaged.

Everything is hunky dory untill the wedding day when suddenly Himanshu realises that he doesn't have anything memorable -- no conflict or separation from his love -- to make the love story unforgettable. So the whole family gets together to make Himanshu's love story truly memorable, and that forms the theme of the film.

Khichdi The Movie is a clean comedy without any double meanings. Supriya Pathak, Majethia, Rajeev Mehta and Anang Desai are efficient and competent. The new additions like Nimisha Vakharia (as Jayshree) and Kirti Kulhari (as Parminder) add zing to the movie. Even the songs are funny and the music goes well with the film.

Satish Shah, Farah Khan, Deven Bhojani and Paresh Ganatra put in great cameos, and embellish the mad humour.

But too many gags spoilt the broth somewhat, dragging the movie unnecessarily at the end.

Khichdi fans will love it because they are familiar with the exaggerated characters and silly jokes. But you can watch it even if you are not a Khichdi fan because it's such a stress buster.

The sequel brings back memories of the popular TV show, but the antics are less amusing this time. There is some crisp humour here and there, but on the whole, the movie fails to deliver anything beyond its predictable format of senselessness.

Written and directed by Aatish Kapadia, and produced by Hatsoff Productions, Khichdi 2 - Mission Paanthukistan takes audiences on an adventurous roller-coaster ride, delving into new dimensions of the Parekh family's dynamics. It is led by Supriya Pathak (Hansa), Rajeev Mehta (Praful), Anang Desai (Babuji), Vandana Pathak (Jayshree), Kirti Kulhari (Parminder), and actor-producer Jamnadas Majethia (Himanshu). Interestingly, Vandana, who was absent from Khichdi: The Movie, makes her return to the Parekh family in the sequel.

Born as a stage play, Khichdi is the only Indian sitcom to have evolved as a movie, web series, and will now have an adventure comedy sequel. Khichdi was a popular 98-episode, two-year long show that aired on Star Plus in early 2000s. It followed the eccentricities of a Gujarati joint family residing in Mumbai.

A 38-episode second season, called Instant Khichdi, aired in 2005 on Star ONE. A 23-episode third season, called Khichdi Returns, also aired in 2018 on Star Plus. Khichdi then became the first Indian sitcom to be made into a feature film, with Khichdi: The Movie. The sequel, an adventure comedy, will now release 13 years after the first film.

Aatish Kapadia and Jamandas Majethia recently also made Happy Family: Conditions Apply, yet another show based on a joint Indian Gujarati family residing in Mumbai. The series that streamed on Prime Video India earlier this year starred Surpiya's elder sister Ratna Pathak Shah as a crazy matriarch, Atul Kulkarni as her son, Ayesha Jhulka as her daughter-in-law, Supriya's daughter Sanah Kapur as her granddaughter.

The second film in the Khichdi movie series has received a date for its OTT release. Titled Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan, the film had released in theatres on 17 November 2023. Now, the Indian Hindi-language comedy drama will be available for streaming on ZEE5 Global from 9 February 2024.

Khichdi 2 is the follow-up to Khichdi: The Movie (2010). It stars Supriya Pathak Kapur, Rajeev Mehta, Anang Desai, Vandana Pathak, Jamnadas Majethia, Kirti Kulhari, Anant Vidhaat Sharma, Reyaansh Vir Chaddha and Flora Saini in prominent roles along with surprise cameos by Farah Khan and Pratik Gandhi.

Hansa as a character has resonated so well across all age groups and it has been the most gratifying role of my life. This new instalment guarantees another laughter-filled rollercoaster ride and what better platform than ZEE5 Global for a homegrown show like Khichdi.
