Using Maps URLs, you can build a universal, cross-platform URL to launch Google Maps and perform searches, get directions and navigation, and display map views and panoramic images. The URL syntax is the same regardless of the platform in use.

As a developer of an Android app, an iOS app, or a website, you can construct a common URL, and it will open Google Maps and perform the requested action, no matter the platform in use when the map is opened.

It is recommended that you use a cross-platform URL to launch Google Maps from your app or website, since these universal URLs allow for broader handling of the maps requests no matter the platform in use. For features that may only be functional on a mobile platform (for example, turn-by-turn navigation), you may prefer to use a platform-specific option for Android or iOS. See the following documentation:

Important: The parameter api=1 identifies the version of Maps URLs this URL is intended for. This parameter is required in every request. The only valid value is 1. If api=1 is NOT present in the URL, all parameters are ignored and the default Google Maps app will launch, either in a browser or the Google Maps mobile app, depending on the platform in use (for example, ).

The map actions available are: search, directions, display a map, and display a Street View panorama. You specify the action in the request URL, along with required and optional parameters. As is standard in URLs, you separate parameters using the ampersand (&) character. For each action, the list of parameters and their possible values are enumerated in the Search Parameters section.

The search action displays results for a search across the visible map region. When searching for a specific place, the resulting map puts a pin in the specified location and displays available place details.

In a location search, you search for a specific location using a place name, address, or comma-separated latitude/longitude coordinates, and the resulting map displays a pin at that location. These three examples illustrate searches for the same location, CenturyLink Field (a sports stadium in Seattle, WA), using different location values.

In a categorical search, you pass a general search term, and Google Maps attempts to find listings that match your criteria near the location you specify. If no location is specified, Google Maps attempts to find listings nearby your current location. If you prefer to provide a location for a categorical search, include the location in the general search string (for example, pizza+seattle+wa).

Note: This parameter is optional, unless you specify a destination_place_id in your URL. If you choose to specify a destination_place_id, you must also include a destination in the URL.

The pano action lets you launch a viewer to display Street View images as interactive panoramas. Each Street View panorama provides a full 360-degree view from a single location. Images contain 360 degrees of horizontal view (a full wrap-around) and 180 degrees of vertical view (from straight up to straight down). The pano action launches a viewer that renders the resulting panorama as a sphere with a camera at its center. You can manipulate the camera to control the zoom and the orientation of the camera.

The first two examples display a panorama of the Eiffel Tower. Example one uses only a viewpoint for the location, and sets the optional heading, pitch, and fov parameters. For comparison, example two uses a pano ID as well as the same parameters set in the first example. The third example displays an indoor panorama image.

Get a split map/street view of any location! Simply enter an address above or click on the green geolocation button next to the address field. The Apple Map and the 2024 Satellite Street View are fully synchronized and dragging the marker or changing the zoom level on one will automatically rearrange the other accordingly.

This is a known problem with Google maps in China. It is due to restrictions on the use of geographic data imposed by the Chinese government. I do not know whether the aerial data or street data is correct.

Under Chinese law, the use of geographic information in the People's Republic of China is restricted to entities that have special authorization from the administrative department for surveying and mapping under the State Council. Consequences of the restriction include fines for unauthorized surveys, lack of geotagging information on many cameras when the GPS chip detects a location within China, incorrect alignment of street maps with satellite maps in various applications, and the crimi Chine...

When I open google maps, links shown on the maps are usable. However, if I change to satellite view or street view and then return to the basic map view, links shown on the map no longer work. I have to exit google maps and reload it to get the links to work again.

Hi, this suggestion cleared the problem with street view, but not with satellite view. However, I have also now updated to the latest version of google maps, and now the problem appears to have been solved completely. Many thanks.

Recently I had a request from one of our internal staff to add the Google imagery to our internal maps or apps. His reasoning was that although we have imagery updated every couple years, Google always seems to have the latest imagery available.

After much research, I did manage to figure out how to add the Google imagery and road hybrid base maps to our ArcGIS Online maps gallery and ArcGIS Earth projects. But, it would be nice if Google and ESRI partnered up to do a permanent integration of this data and functionality into ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Earth, and other ESRI products. I understand that we have the Living Atlas and ArcGIS online content available to add to our maps, but if it was automatically available as a default, I think it would break that barrier and make it much easier for the user.

If ESRI and Google consider it, maybe they can also add the functionality of the Google Streets View. I work for a local property appraiser and they frequently need to see the street or surrounding areas with updated photos.

I agree with you. If Google Maps API/Google Geocoding/Street View can be integrated with ESRI ArcGIS Online/Enterprise environment. It will be fantastic. The organization need to pay for what they use from Google for sure by registering with their corporate payment and API keys with Google, and ESRI just need to provide an amazingly easy and straightforward way for their users to add those Google services easily into their AGOL/Enterprise

These are all good comments and suggestions, and this is not something new. Over the years (and in past products I've been involved with) we've looked into the potential for integrating Google Maps, including StreetView, more deeply into our products. The limiting factor is the Google Terms of Use (TOUs). Google limits the use of their imagery, StreetView, and other capabilities to within the Google ecosystem - specifically within the context of a Google map. Read the Google licensing for details, but the bottom line is that this is not achievable given the current use limitations.

Thanks for submitting your idea. It has been reviewed by our moderation team and is now open to voting.
We currently have 3D maps available for routes and although this doesn't match the level of detail that street view does on Google Maps, it could offer a general sense of what the streets are like when paired with the Satellite map overlay.

+1

Was going to suggest this and saw that the idea was already submitted.

I want to explore a new trail tomorrow morning and it would be great if Street View extended to mountains and trails. The community can submit photos and videos of the different routes.

Other routing apps have street view integrated and I use it often to make sure the routes I create on Strava is good..when i don't know the area so that i dont find any surprises when I am riding. It would be great to see this feature on strava sometime.

In addition to importing your own background map, you can add a static background image to your workbook and plot your data on it. For example, you can take a Google Map image and plot your data on it.

If you are using the Tableau background map, or a WMS map or Mapbox map that contains custom layers, you can show or hide layers on your background map to customize the background elements that frame your geospatial data. For example, you can overlay streets andhighways or county boundaries on the map to give your data context.

If you are using the Tableau background map, you can turn on a variety ofpredefined data layers that show U.S. census information. The data in these layers is for demographic data collected from the U.S. ACS Census.
