I wasn’t actually planning on doing some shameless self-promotion, but as long as the list is back conversing, let me mention that I’ll be giving a bass workshop at Wilmington Winter Bluegrass Festival (Wintergrass) this weekend. This is a great jamming festival - I’ve been there every year since it started in 2008.
I have given my workshop for the past five years, and every year the number of participants has increased. My course covers in a two hour period a little music theory (so students will understand the principles underlying the bass lines) followed by a detailed session covering beginner to intermediate bass lines and more advanced techniques such as slapping, harmonics, and soloing. The course provides a 20-page handout so that students need not forget what I’ve shown them. The workshop will be on Saturday (I believe - the schedule has not yet been finalized) and is free with a festival ticket.
