Rob,

 

I just looked over my 41 Kay. The only screws in the headstock area are the larger ones that attach the tuner plates. I think you round a lost stray.

I was tuning my 1963 Kay when a small object fell out from somewhere around the head stock, rattled down the front of the bass, and fell to the floor. Turned out to be a machine screw, 5/8" long and about 1/16th " diameter, dark brown or black in color. I have examined the bass very carefully and I can't find any place that this machine screw could have come from. The bass has been in the shop a few times since I acquired it in 2001. All I can think of is that, on one of these occasions, an errant screw from the luthier's workbench fell into the pegbox and became wedged in there somehow.   Any ideas?   Thanks,   Rob Downie Tualatin, OR
