Hi gang,

I was doing some cleanup work on my Google Groups and was reminded that our late, great leader Kip is still the owner of this group.  Fortunately, he made me a manager, so I am able to add/remove members and handle other administrative stuff but there is no way to change the group ownership.  So, it'll remain Kip's list until we decide to start a new one for all you thumpers out there.

I just wanted to let you know that I'll be looking over your shoulders to keep everything running, and I'd be happy to share the (minimal) job with anyone who wants to volunteer to be the backup manager.

Cheers!
Archie

Archie—

This is the last msg I ever got. Has the list dried up, or have I been unsubscribed? Thanx.

Barb,

I got the message so the list must be active. I just think nobody is using it.

I got traded for a drummer and electric bass in a band reorg/reformat this January so I have not played a lot lately (I don’t play soft rock). Been to a few jams but not the same as a working band. Spending more time behind a sound console than playing anymore.  I do enjoy mixing but most bands cannot afford a soundman so it is mainly event venues and church groups which equates to volunteer work.

I have met a bunch of bass players who are also sound engineers (some of them are career sound professionals).

Not just locally but as remote as Nome Alaska where I met two more such people while doing missions work. Wonder what the connection is?

I am still out here receiving and reading the messages sent to the list (however few or many they should be).

I've recently begun playing for a Cowboy Church using my bass fiddle, and it is great fun.  The music is rather old-time country and bluegrass, and we're working with the music director to eliminate the contemporary christian choruses in favor of the deeper pool of old gospel music available.  As a bonus my wife is back to playing her fiddle.  Life is good.

Hi Gang,

As Bill determined, it's just been really quiet on the list.

I haven't been playing my upright much - it's been on loan to a friend
who had the misfortune to pull her bass out of the closet only to find
the neck had snapped. So she's got mine for the time being.

But lately I've been playing the electric more anyhow. Right now, I've
got a souped-up ESP P-bass clone that I bought from Geff King, and I
picked up a 5-string Schecter Diamond for dirt cheap on E-bay. I'm
playing both through a TC Electronics BG250-115 that Kip recommended.
It sounds great and is a heckuva lot lighter than the old Peavey Combo
300 that I can no longer even lift.

I've been working putting together a traditional country duet band with
Howard Parker (on steel) and Shannon Borges (on guitar) - I missed
singing with a pedal steel and playing all those great shuffle lines on
the bass, so if we ever find a gig, we'll be ready to go. The market
out there sure ain't what it was back 20 years ago when Geff and I were
playing the honky-tonks around Baltimore!

There is a trad - Quebec/Celtic scene that has opened up and that I have been neglecting and will return to.

The leader of my regular 2x/week group up and died on us a few years ago and that really knocked the stuffing out of my urge to play.

It's great to hear from you folks

Every Sunday 3 - 6
St Malo bar, part of Le Cartier restaurant on
Jacques-Cartier blvd between King and the bridge.
Sherbrooke Quebec.

We have occasional visitors from Vermont.
It's a jam, of course, and since it's now weekly
there are four rotating hosts, all outstanding musicians.
Look for Trad Estrie on fb where you can practice your French.
