Hello people. I am currently working as a Teach for India fellow in Pune. Lately I've been updating quite a few captured moments of my class and posts as well. I teach in a government school in Shukravar peth, Pune. I was lucky enough to get an excellent education, but there are 400 million children in India who are NOT! If I look back at the past 2 months of my fellowship, it was probably the most insane, tiring, crazy, confusing, exciting, nervous, and maddening- well in short the most difficult time of my fellowship.
The reason why I joined Teach for India is because personally I feel every problem of our society, whether be it women issues or poverty, THE ROOT CAUSE IS LACK OF EDUCATION. Alongside that reality, however, are the countless examples of belief and hope – the ones that inspire us by telling us that a new reality is not only possible, but is also within reach. I feel incredibly lucky. It is just a matter of chance that we are where we are today. We didn't choose the family that we were born into, or choose the fact that our parents could afford to give us quality education. Every time we make a choice, we feel lucky. However, we cannot help but think …what if? What if these choices weren't available to us? It is this thought that makes us work towards that one day when every child in India will attain an excellent education. The family or the demographics that a child is born into should not determine his or her destiny. We understand the importance of education but more importantly, we understand the value of each of those 320 million lives and the potential in every one of them. Imagine 320 million astronauts, or 320 million scientists. Imagine 320 million change-makers driving India forward. That's what we're working towards - A day when every child gets the opportunity to attain an excellent education. Because that's what every child deserves.

The Average Reading level in my 3rd standard Class is -0.5. Yes, -0.5!. Their English reading capability is not even of a 1st standard child. They are 8 year olds who have not had the chance to receive basic education because of the deplorable Socio-Economic conditions they are growing up with.
In my journey so far, I have encountered harsh realities and tough truths. But I have also come across something far, far stronger - Hope. And YOU can be a part of that hope. The hope is that people like you and I won't let money be a barrier for them to achieve their dreams. From getting their books to funding their field trips, it all depends on your support. Let each one of us show the world that poverty cannot dictate anyone's destiny.
This bunch of 28 kids is the purpose of my life right now. Your support will play a huge role in pushing the benchmark of the crazy growth that I want to see in my class. I am really grateful to each one of you. If you wish to donate, bank details are given below. You can contact me on 7896959960 for any further account details.
Every contribution you make supports and matters. Because as cliché as “Be the change you wish to see in the world” sounds, it’s the truest thing I know now. Thank you :)

A very important aspect of the mail I missed it out is that I need to buy books to make a class library, in which I need to include books of different levels I have in my class. For their worksheets and daily practice papers a huge amount is required if seen at a larger scale. Also I try my best to integrate their lessons through experiential learning so as to bring down the four walls of a classroom. I have to contact people on a monthly basis to conduct workshops and awareness programmes to integrate the element of exposure and access contributing their holistic approach to education. I want my kids to take initiatives to work for a social cause, example cleanliness. These all activities require expenditure, through your support we can try our best to remove this barrier in providing them quality education.
Sorry for the inconvenience :)
