Isit me or is the new 2023 Sketchup version different to 2022 regarding grouping geometry and easily having the option to make it unique? - Yes my 2023 Sketchup is also updated being that it is the 21st of March.
To help achieve your goals, some time spent at the SketchUp Campus and at the SketchUp - YouTube channel will be very worthwhile. Both sites are from the SketchUp team. On the YouTube channel, pay attention to the Square One Series. It covers the basics for each tool.
If you look at the entity info , it will show how many of a specific entity are in the model.
Double clicking into the model as you have there , made it unique will show group (1 in model) for each of those windows.
Specifically the Examples and Tutorial repository: GitHub - SketchUp/sketchup-ruby-api-tutorials: SketchUp Ruby API Tutorials and Examples
It contain example of bare minimum for a Hello World extension. as well as a minimal example for a simple custom tool.
If you really want to achieve this through scripting you could use the PID (persistent ID) of that component instance to target it. To get the PID in the first place you can use Sketchup.active_model.selection.first.persistent_id. Then you should be able to use Model#find_entity_by_persistent_id to retrieve a reference to the same entity later.
It looks like you installed SketchUp Pro instead of SketchUp Make and the trial period has run out. Uninstall SketchUp 2017 Pro from your computer and run a registry cleaner such as CCleaner. Then download SketchUp 2017 Make from this link. Make sure you get the Make download and not the Pro download. Also make sure when you install SketchUp that you right click on the installer exe and select Run as administrator from the context menu. Do not select Run not double click on the installer to start it.
I can and have tried. I essentially get the attached image and when I close and re open sketch up I am returned to the same screen that I posted originally stating that I do not have a license ISSUE61140822 160 KB
I mean I thought that might be an issue as well, but its odd because this only started happening two weeks ago and never was an issue before. Ive checked my windows defender and firewall setting and it is permitted.
If you modeled it you would have had to have made it a component for that to happen. One of the things about components is that the edits you make to one edit the other instances in the model. If you want to change one or some without changing the others, you need to break that relationship with Make Unique.
Sketchup make has just started crashing on my windows 10 machine after running well for months. Any advice? My windows 10 machine does automatic windows updates. Is there an issue with a recent update?
Have you installed any new extensions recently, or updated any? You might try disabling all extensions via the Extension Manager window, shut down and restart SketchUp, and see if the spontaneous crashes continue.
Thanks Updating the graphics card driver seems to have prevented an immediate crash when opening the 2022 trial version. (I use open cut list - which is now running fine with 2017. I have not installed it for 2022.)
SketchUp is 3D modeling software that allows users to create and manipulate 3D models of buildings, landscapes, furniture, and other objects. It is commonly used in architecture and interior design.
SketchUp is owned by Trimble Inc. The program is currently available as a web-based application, SketchUp Free,[4] and three paid subscriptions, SketchUp Shop, SketchUp Pro, and SketchUp Studio, each with increasing functionality.[5][6][7]
SketchUp was developed by startup company @Last Software of Boulder, Colorado, co-founded in 1999 by Brad Schell and Joe Esch.[10][11] SketchUp was created in August 2000 as a 3D content creation tool and was envisioned as a software program for design professionals.[3] The program won a Community Choice Award at its first tradeshow in 2000.[12] The first macOS release of SketchUp won a "Best of Show" at Macworld in 2002.[13]
Google acquired @Last Software on March 14, 2006,[14] attracted by @Last Software's work developing a plugin for Google Earth.[15][16][17] On January 9, 2007, Google announced Google SketchUp 6, a free downloadable version of SketchUp, including integrated tools for uploading content to Google Earth and to the Google 3D Warehouse.[18]
Google SketchUp Pro 6 introduced a beta version of Google SketchUp LayOut which includes 2D vector tools and page layout tools allowing presentations to be produced without the need for a separate presentation program.[19]
On September 1, 2010, SketchUp 8 was released with model geolocation with Google Maps and Building Maker integration.[20] Mac OS X Tiger was no longer supported.[3] SketchUp version 8 use under Wine has been rated "Gold".[21] Geolocation information is always stored in the .kmz file.[22] The building designs themselves are saved in SKP.
Trimble Navigation (now Trimble Inc.) acquired SketchUp from Google on June 1, 2012, for an undisclosed sum.[23] In 2013, SketchUp 2013 was released. A new site was provided, Extension Warehouse, hosting plugins and extensions for SketchUp.[24]
SketchUp Pro subscription includes the eponymous desktop 3D modeler, plus importers and exporters to common 2D and 3D formats, access to SketchUp's repository of pre-built 3D models (3D Warehouse), access to its extension library (Extension Warehouse), access to LayOut (2D documentation software) and Style Builder (create custom edge styles for SketchUp models).[28][29] SketchUp Pro 2016 has native integration with Trimble Connect, treat 3D Warehouse models as references, a rebuilt Generate Report and now LayOut offers web-friendly reference objects as well as a new LayOut API.[30]
Go, formerly known as Shop, is a SketchUp offering that includes the following: web and mobile modelers, SketchUp for Web and SketchUp for iPad; Trimble Connect Business, a cloud collaboration tool for viewing, sharing, and accessing project information from anywhere; and access to SketchUp's model library, 3D Warehouse.
SketchUp Go is aimed at design and construction professionals who are stakeholders in the design, review, and presentation process, as well as for DIY designers. It has a feature set designed to meet the specific needs of such users. For example, users can model and mark up 3D models digitally using Apple Pencil and touch. They can take the iPad to construction project sites and coordinate in 3D.[31] SketchUp Go does not include the desktop modeler, a downloadable application that can be used offline. Currently, only Pro and Studio plans feature this modeler.
In November 2017, SketchUp Free was released as a web-based application which replaces SketchUp Make.[32] Drawings can be saved to the cloud, saved locally as a native SKP file, or exported as an STL file. Compared to Make, SketchUp Free does not support extensions, creation, and editing of materials. The product is not for commercial use.[33]
On June 4, 2020, Trimble announced that SketchUp would transition to a subscription business model. After November 4, 2020, SketchUp no longer sells perpetual licenses and maintenance & support plans.[34][35]
3D Warehouse is an open library in which SketchUp users may upload and download 3D models to share.[36] The models can be downloaded right into the program without anything having to be saved onto your computer's storage. File sizes of the models can be up to 50 MB. Anyone can make, modify and re-upload content to and from the 3D warehouse free of charge.[37] All the models in 3D Warehouse are free, so anyone can download files for use in SketchUp or even other software such as AutoCAD, Revit and ArchiCAD - all of which have apps allowing the retrieval of models from 3D Warehouse. Since 2014 Trimble has launched a new version of 3D Warehouse where companies may have an official page with their own 3D catalog of products. Trimble is currently investing in creating 3D developer partners in order to have more professionally modeled products available in 3D Warehouse. According to the Trimble, 3D Warehouse is the most popular 3D content site on the web.
SketchUp 4 and later support software extensions written in the Ruby programming language, which add specialized functionality. Many such extensions are available to others on the Trimble Extension Warehouse[39] and many other 3rd party websites as well. SketchUp has a Ruby console, an environment which allows experimentation with Ruby.[40]
SketchUp is a three-dimensional rendering application that uses a sketch-based approach for creating models. It may be beneficial to anyone looking to visualize three dimensional structures, spaces, or objects. With a free-to-use version available for download, SketchUp is an affordable way to develop 3D models. It is easy to learn compared to professional 3D graphic software packages.
Using your imagination to conceptualize physical spaces is difficult. Communicating ideas and concepts that involve spatial and volumetric relationships in space, such as comparison of size and distance between objects, is often more effectively accomplished by sharing visualizations and renderings of the subject. This allows viewers to have a common point of reference in which to talk about details.
Three-dimensional models offer immersive and engaging aspects that are potentially exciting to viewers. For example, sharing a virtual walkthrough of an ancient city or a 360-degree view of a design prototype can make the experience memorable for your students, which helps them retain the information presented.
SketchUp provides accurate tools for the rendering of objects and spaces. As an easy entry point for CAD (Computer Aided Design) software, SketchUp can be used in disciplines that require technical drawings and diagrams. For example, SketchUp can be used to conceptualize urban planning initiatives to think through the impact of proposed changes to a community. Resulting models can be shared with stakeholders complete with walkthrough animations and annotations to provide additional information.
