Dear all,

There have been a few cases recently (and in the past) of
probably-automated "crappy" edits of the sandboxes. A recent example is
here:

https://basilisk.fr/_activity?forUser=VzrlBIoi

When this happens, I remove the associated user account, so if you
notice any of these edits, please send me an email.

Note also that you may want to be careful when downloading and using
sandbox codes on your own system, since it may contain malicious code
injected this way. You can check by reading the source code before using
it (always a good idea anyway) and by looking at the "history" on the
web site. For example:

https://basilisk.fr/sandbox/acastillo/output_fields/vtu/output_vtu.h?history

which will show both the hack by "VzrlBloi" and Andres' "acastillo"
correction.

Note also that since the code in the official release (src/) cannot be
edited through the wiki, it is safe from these potential attacks.

PS: since many eyes are safer than one, you can also check what is
happening on the wiki (including interesting rather than crappy edits),
by regularly following the "Recent activity" link on the web site i.e.

Dear Prof. Popinet and Dear All

Somebody may try to malign my name/image in front of you and the Basilisk community with hacking attempts or by corrupting others' codes in my name. It may be made to appear that I am doing this.

Why I am writing this is because yesterday (or day before) I went through the vtu files section of Andrés Castillo sandbox and today there is this email by you!  

With this email, I want to broadcast that I am a harmless person who is genuinely interested in scientific computing.

I have great respect and admiration for people who are working towards the progress of science and technology with open source software. I am learning Basilisk through others code (I think that is one way to learn in absence of direct interaction and guidance from you Prof. Popinet, Prof. Zaleski, Prof. Lopez and others)

I request you and all to please inform me if some malicious attempt is made in my name.

I am not sure why you feel that you are associated with my message? Did
you create the account 'VzrlBIoi'? If you did, do you think that
somebody else used it without your consent? Or may be you just
mistakenly edited the file like this:

which would be a harmless mistake.

I have not created the account "VzrlBIoi".

Right now I do not have any account on the sandbox sir...

And I have not edited the file by mistake as well...

I generally check the 'Recent changes' section to know about the updates and to check who is working on what topic. 

I recently noticed changes by Andres Castillo in the vtu header and checked the code, (I am using vtu for Basilisk visualization) and then I saw your email sir...

I apologize if the email was unnecessary sir...I just wanted everyone to be alert...

You don't seem to be connected to any of the cases I was talking about,
so there is nothing to worry about. I don't think anybody is trying to
malign your name or image.
