Dear all,
We have some updates for BGUM2025 7-9 July in Oxford:
- The specific venue will be in the Engineering Science Department, in Lecture Room 1, in the Thom Building (post code OX1 3PJ) on Parks Road, Oxford.
- As previously updated, there will be a dinner on the Tuesday evening (8th July) at Wadham College. We need to collect information on dietary information, so please could attendees complete the following survey on dietaries, and whether you intend to come to the dinner, by Monday 16th June.
We need this information to supply to the dinner team.
- To book hotels, we suggest anywhere in "central Oxford". Broadly you could expect to walk to the venue in about 20 minutes if you stay east of the river Thames, west of the river Cherwell, south of Belbroughton road (or thereabouts), and north of Christ Church meadow. You could stay further away if you like but it would mean either a longer walk or having to take alternative transport - which in Oxford traffic may not be quicker than walking!
Some hotels to consider:
Old Parsonage, 1-3 Banbury Road, OX2 6NN is very close to department, just across the street
The Buttery, 11-12 Broad Street, Oxford OX1 3AP
The Randolph Inn, Beaumont Street, OX1 2LN :: Is more expensive well-appointed and reasonably famous
Cotswold Lodge Hotel, 66A Banbury Road, OX2 6JP :: it is also quite close to the department.
You could also consider universityrooms.com to see if any of the Colleges have available accommodation, this is often cheaper but can be more dormitory style.
- Travel to Oxford:
From London, the simplest options are by train from Paddington Station, or Marylebone Station, both of which are easily accessible via the Underground if arriving from the Eurostar, for example. If coming from Heathrow or Gatwick airports, there are also direct bus options, for example the confusingly named "Airline" bus.
That's all for now! Stay tuned for an updated programme in the next few weeks.
All the best,
Wouter
