Spooky Nation
In honor of Black History Month, a screening of Rebirth of a Nationby
Paul Miller (otherwise known as composer, multimedia artist and writer
DJ Spooky) will be held at the Trillion Space on Saturday, Feb. 28,
from 4 to 9 p.m. The film is a “remix” of D.W. Griffith’s
controversial 1915 epic The Birth of a Nation. Although it has earned
a space on the National Film Registry, the feature is most-often cited
for its graphic (and sympathetic) portrayal of racism in the post-
Civil War South. Miller’s remix deconstructs this notoriously
inflammatory silent film while drawing striking parallels to present
sociopolitical conflicts in America. The film also includes Miller’s
original score, performed by the Kronos Quartet. This free event is
cosponsored by Basement Films and will also include DJs, VJs and a
collaborative art installation that draws inspiration from Black
History Month. The screening begins at 7 p.m. For more information,

located at 510 Second Street NW.
