OK folks, here it is.... Planning for the 2011 Baseball Odyssey. Dates
have been selected (see below) and I'm looking for those who are
interested so I can start making arrangements. This year we'll be
headed to the Pacific Northwest. And, has been the norm the last few
years we will be extending the trip a bit with some minor league
games.

Here's more detail about the games. The mileage on the right of each
game represents the mileage from the preceding game's park.

6/17, Fri Seattle Mariners vs Phillies (7:10pm)
6/18, Sat Eugene Emeralds vs Boise (7:05pm) 282 miles, 5 hrs
6/19, Sun Oakland As vs Giants (1:05pm) 530 miles, 8 hrs 38 mins
6/20, Mon Sacramento River Cats vs Fresno (12:05pm) 86 miles, 1 hr 30
mins
6/21, Tues San Francisco Giants vs Twins (7:15pm) 85 miles, 1 hr 30
mins

So, fly into Seattle and out of San Fran. We'll also be renting
transportation for the ride down the west coast. As far as
accommodations, I think we have some connections in Seattle and San
Francisco. Following the Eugene game it may be prudent to put a couple
of hours of driving in and get a hotel say in Medford, OR (3 hrs).
This will all be firmed up as I get a count of the number interested.

I'd like to get the tickets ordered by March 18, so keep that in mind
as you make your decision. Respond to this note to keep the
conversation going. Hope to see you in June.

Exciting!! I'm still working on my schedule since 'the job' has not cooperated and is making that particular time a big crunch. Figures. I'm not willing to concede anything yet, so I will go to the wire before committing to BO'11 or regretfully bailing out.

But, fear not -- accommodations in the Seattle area are secured. Jean's sister, Janet, will be thrilled and honored to have her home be used as the base station for the first stop of the trip. Whether I go or not, I will gladly coordinate that.

Thanks, Der Kommissar for your dedication to this endeavor and all the effort that entails. Hope to see you in SEA.

-JimC

As much as I'd love to go, once again, my schedule won't allow it. I'll
be coaching my son Derek in his regular season, summer season and also
coaching his team that will play in a week long tournament at Dreams
Park in Cooperstown the last week of July. I'm also giving it another
year of umpiring high school ball and Babe Ruth.

Thanks again for the invite, Jeff, and hopefully I can join in next year
since this is my last year coaching.

Hermano - I'm in.  I think Sam is in too.  I will confirm 100% before early March so you can order tickets!

How are the fish biting these days?

Well,
Once again, I will not be able to attend this year's tremendous odyssey.  My daughter Tori graduate from Century this year, and her grad party is on that weekend.  Have a great time and root hard for those Twins for me!  I'll be watching that game to get a glimpse of you guys.  Don't forget your "Circle Me Bert" signs!

Take care,
Will J

Here is what I know (no wise cracks, Andrew):

- Tim Haynes and Sam(?) - In it for the duration
- Chris/Yuki Haynes - haven't heard a peep. What's the dillio?
- Andrew (sans boys) - In it for the San Francisco leg
- Jim Carr - In it for the duration, still working on Jenn but...
- Jeff Haynes - In it for the duration, maybe Kate as well who's also
working on bringing a friend
- Gene Dankbar - Has inferred a decline, sadly we will miss his
moderation of the annual trivia
- Will Jacobsen - Has declined, what will we do without his first
strike call or his Harry Caray imitation?
- Bill Bates - Has declined, ahhh, one less Yankee fan to drag along
- Greg Krysko - Has declined, ditto

All others have been mute on the topic. If you are planning on
attending and you don't appear in the above list, please respond. I'd
like to get the game tickets purchased this weekend.

I believe accommodations have been secured in the Seattle and San Fran
area. In Seattle, Jim Carr will be responsible for overnight on Friday
(6/17) and potentially Thursday (6/16) if people prefer to arrive
earlier. In San Fran, Martha McClatchie (Kodis) has graciously offered
us her home for our use while she will be away on vacation for 6/19,
20 and 21). She is located in Los Altos and suggested that the San
Jose airport is closer to her home and may provide a better departure
point. For those of you into higher math, you have observed that 6/18
is still open. It is my suggestion that we break up the long drive
from Eugene to Oakland with a stay on the Oregon/California border
(Medford, OR) at a local roach motel.

I'll be providing status of game ticket purchases next week. As you
start determining the best flights for your trip please keep us posted
as coordinating pick ups and deliveries will be key.

Any questions, let me know.

Let the games begin!

The BO will have officially visited all stadiums except the Rockies after this year. And what better way to start the next decade of the Odyssey than to visit the hallowed grounds of the Fens! Maybe next year. Thanks for keeping the light on for us!

Just to give everyone an idea of the ticket prices. For Seattle, there
are plenty of tickets available and by the way they are priced you'd
assume that they'd field a quality team. Hmmm... any way I'll be
shooting for $40. Eugene will be about $10. Oakland will be around
$50. Sacramento will be about $22 and San Fran will be between $40 and
$50. Total for all will be around $170.

Here are the number of people I am currently planning for each game:

Stl Eug Oak Sac San
Jim C 2 2 2 2 2
Tim 2 2 2 2 2
Andrew 0 0 3 3 6
Chris 1 1 1 0 0
Jeff 2 2 2 2 2
Total 7 7 10 9 12

There is still some uncertainty about how many tics. I know Tim and
Jim (and Jeff) are trying to decide whether to buy tics for their
kids. So please get back to me to verify the number of tics tied to
your name.

Jeff,

Great to have you back in the saddle again! I missed having you on the BO last year. I have been trying to figure a way to make this year's BO but no luck so far. Multiple issues; two family weddings, middle daughter going off to study abroad, lack of vacation time and monies (have 2 in college). I know these are not good BO excuses but the boss has made some decisions for me. Keep me in the loop so I can follow the trip. Thanks for keeping me in the invites! Stay well.

GO SOX!

Jen has decided that she WILL be able to join us on the BO'11 Northwest Tour! I'll take two tix at all stops, please!

I'm pretty sure our Seattle hostess would love to join us to the Mariners game, too.
