There is no joy in Mudville.... I am very saddened to say that I will
not be able to participate in BO '09. Between Kate's graduation and
early start to college and some overall belt tightening in the Haynes
household, it just didn't make sense for me this year. If only there
was some room in the bailout plan for a little BO stimulus. O well...

Anyone... feel free to take the reigns on this baby and make BO '09
work. You have my blessing.

Have a great 2009 season and see you all in the stands next year.

Jeff - that sucks!!!  [ooops, are my mommy and Mrs. Tonachel still on cc?]

It's not bailout money, but I was chatting with Christo about a "BO-light".  Maybe a long weekend in mid-June in the Indiana/Illinois/west Ohio area for couple minor league games (maybe 1 big-leaguer in the windy city - can you say Wrigley - if schedules work).  Anyone interested?  We were looking at June 12-14 (Fri-Sun) - Mrs Magellan would probably hit the road the evening of June 11.

Sam, his friend Hussein and I would be in.  My good friend Steve Demo would - twist, twist - hopefully also be in.  Those Chicago Tonachels would I hope - twist, twist - also be in.  Christ, any sweet air fares?

I'll take a peak at schedules and venues.  I got a cool minor league parks book as a gift from someone ; )

Language, Timmy, Language!  You know they're watching, whether they're on the list or not...

We've got to check those dates, but it sounds awfully good.  There are no shortage of teams to see, with or without a major league game mixed in.  And chez Tonachel is always open for a little BO.

I was actually thinking about a trip to Chicago with Max for a game at Wrigley. Is Andrew living in Chicago this summer? Let me know if you have any plans to visit and would like to carpool.

I realize that I haven't had the chance to meet anyone in the group, short of Will Jacobsen, but I would love the opportunity to meet some of the folks who got the chance to enjoy the confines of our small house in St. Louis for a previous BO.  If people are going to Chicago (especially Wrigley), it's less than 2 hours from my (current) confines of Milwaukee, and I'd be very interested in attending.  Should Miller Park be on the trip, well, I'm always up for a tailgate there as well.

Expect me to "Boo" the heck outta the Cubs, though, as my love of them extends only to Sweet Lou.  The rest can land in the basement of the NL Central.  <smirk>

Many times wrong, but never in doubt,

Josh,

I think I was one of the beneficiaries of your generosity when BO swung through St. Louis in '04, so we'd love to return the favor in June.

To all interested in Tim's proposed BO Light, the Cubs are hosting the Twins June 12-14, so Wrigley is a possibility.  There's also the Brewers hosting the White Sox in Milwaukee, the Indianapolis Indians hosting the Norfolk Tides, and the Gary (IN) Southshore Rail Cats hosting the Schaumburg Flyers, for starters.  That weekend works as well as any for us (though Taylor may have a game of his own on Friday night).  So, we're interested in participating and hosting.

Yes, Josh, it was me and my son Sam too.  Had a great stay.  Would be great if we could connect on this BO light outing.

I would absolutely love to.  Might be fun to bring my 3 year old too.  We got a 20 game pack for the Brew Crew this year and he just delights in coming to the games.  It's a nice experience to bring a full family to a ball game (my wife...a long time Twins fan...enjoys the games too).

People should know that if, for some reason, Miller Park becomes part of the swing, you've got a free place to crash at our house...about 2 miles from Miller Park and near the best parking entrance.

Also if, for some reason, Indianapolis becomes in the trip, I lived there for 3 years and could almost guarantee some lodging, if people are willing to hit couches or bring sleeping bags.  (The minor league park there is wonderful...it looks similar to The Jake).

Tim,

Count me in!!   I missed last year so I'll be ready!!  That plan sounds good and comes at a good time - post high school graduation activities!!  I have seen the park at Indy from the outside and it looks great!   Sounds like a Wrigley visit with the Gary (IN) and Indianapolis Parks would round out the weekend without too much travel.  Let me know and I'll do some brainstorming on some potential tailgating meals.

A proposal for BO09:

Friday
1:20 p.m. at Wrigley (Cubs v Twins) [price: unknown]

5:45 p.m. at Steinmetz H.S. (Chopin Park v Oriole Park Orioles)--this is Taylor's team and, since I'm the coach, we both kinda have to be there

sleep at Tonachels in Chicago

Saturday
drive 333 miles to Des Moines, Iowa, secure camp site, and meet up with the Kommish and Megan

7:05 p.m. at Principal Park in Des Moines (Iowa Cubs v. Omaha Royals) [price: $7-12/ticket]

Sunday
drive to about 275 miles to Joliet, Illinois

2:05 p.m. at Silver Cross Field in Joliet (Joliet Jackhammers v. Winnipeg Goldeyes) [$10/ticket]

drive about 60 miles to Tonachels to sleep

I know this isn't ideal in terms of two long drives, but that's part of BO tradition, too.

Who's in? or Who's got another itinerary?  We need to decide in the next few days, so out-of-towners can book flights and tickets (at least for Wrigley) can be purchased.

I've always wanted to see the Winnipeg Goldeyes...

Hello fellow BOers,

I am actually quite touched with the effort you all have put into saving this year's BO. Some might say verklempt.

Anyway, I do appreciate the effort to get out to Des Moines. And while I will most likely buy tickets to see the Iowa Cubs on Saturday I cannot completely guarantee that we'll be able to make it to the game. The AAU Tournament schedule is still not available and depending on the tournament, schedule could depend on record in which case I wouldn't know until the very last minute.

I wanted to let you all know this before traveling the great distance to get there and then discover that Meg and I will be unavailable come game time. I know there are lots of teams that may be closer and easier to get to. Meg and I would certainly understand if you didn't make it all the way out.

I leave it completely up to you. Just wanted to serve you up with all the information I have at the moment.

Kommish, et. al. (whatever that means),

Thanks for clarifying your plans.  Tim suggested, and I agree, that we can probably get away with two plans for now: one outlined below, taking us to Des Moines and back, and one that just takes us into western Illinois/eastern Iowa (perhaps the Quad City River Bandits) if we can't hook up in Des Moines.  I think it's safe to make this decision on Saturday, June 13th, during the day and just purchase tickets and make camp reservations accordingly.

So, with that in mind, we still need to know who's in (besides Chris and Tim), particularly for the Wrigley game.  I need to buy tickets soon, or there won't be any.   The Cubs sell out regardless of their record.  And a Friday afternoon game always screams "hooky" to tens of thousands of business people and other ne'er-do-wells in Chicago.  Then again, what else are they going to do, watch the White Sox?

Please respond before the Indy 500.

Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew, BO-lite partakers,

Sam and I are IN!  Sam's friend Hussein won't be able to make it this year, but he's parlayed a credit for next year (fyi, Hussein is into all kinds of sports including baseball.  We've always been pleased that he and Sam are friends until recently when he grew to 6' 3" and is towering over us on the basketball court).

I do believe Mr. Steve Demichele is also in (he and I have been chatting this weekend).  But I will let Steve give the final OK for tix buying.  FYI, we're planning to head back to Columbus Sunday evening and/or Monday morning.  We're taking Monday off and hope to find a game within 2-3 hours of Columbus on Monday.  Anyone who wants to join us is welcome!!  Toledo Mud Hens or Indianapolis whose-ee-whatzits.

Andrew, I can do the campground lookups.  Can you tell me the destination locations for the 2 plans.  I got Des Moines and Chicago (Camp Tonachel), but wasn't sure of the others.

Looking forward to a groovin' good time!!

Timo
