Anne will talk about recent projects in the Barrow area as examples of archaeology projects where local students and adults have been very involved. The Nuvuk Archaeology Project began in 1998 at community request excavated much of a rapidly eroding village cemetery with a crew of local high school students. The Walakpa Archaeological Salvage Project started last summer when a house started eroding at Monument. Timing meant students were heading back to school, but we were able to use volunteers to stretch limited funds for a crew. The Inupiat Heritage Center also provided a staff member as part of the crew.

Anne will also talk about ways you can be involved with the projects, either as a student crew member (there are some paid jobs) or a volunteer.  She will also talk about ways to keep up with what is happening on the projects between talks.

Come celebrate Alaska Archaeology Month!
