That sounds like it would a good activity for us to be involved in. You can count me in if there's enough interest.

Wouldn't it have been nice if Linda Maio's office sent this out to HER constituents?

Is there anyone interested in trying to make a go of this? I received this from the office of Berkeley Council Member Max Anderson.

Dear District 3 Constituents,

BERKELEY CELEBRATES NATIONAL NIGHT OUT -TUESDAY, AUGUST 2, 2011

Residents all over Berkeley will be coming together to share food, shake hands, and build neighborhoods that work together to prevent and respond to crime. All Neighborhood Watch Groups, local businesses and church or community groups are invited to organize block parties and join us in a fun night!

National Night Out is being celebrated Tuesday, August 2. The Berkeley Police Department works with neighborhood groups to plan their events, block off the streets, plan their post-event clean up, and reach out to new neighbors. Police officers, firefighters, and representatives from other City departments also visit the events to share information about crime prevention, emergency preparedness, and other City services.

"National Night Out" is held on the first Tuesday each August, and has grown to involve more than 34 million people from more than 10,000 communities. It's a fun event which has been very successful in promoting crime prevention activities, strengthening police-community relations, and supporting neighborhoods.

HOW TO SIGN UP: Residents can download the registration form here or from the BPD website. To complete the registration, all groups must submit a block permit with the City of Berkeley for street closures for this event. Please read the Block Party permits and necessary requirements to download the necessary forms.

Residents with questions can visit http://www.cityofberkeley.info/police/ or contact CSO Patricia Subia at 510/981-4892 or via email at PSu...@CityofBerkeley.info.

For more information about this national event, visit National Night Out-America's Night Out Against Crime.
