Thatmeans you don't have to use Yahoo.com webmail interface! You can check your emails using other email programs (like Mailbird, Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird). Using desktop email programs will make you more productive and your email will always be available, even offline.
The short answer is that IMAP connects to your email providers' server and is used for receiving email while SMTP is used for sending mail to other servers.
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a protocol that requests that your email provider will save all of your messages and folders onto its own servers. This way, whether you are using an email client or webmail, you will be able to connect to your email account and view anything you have received because it's always stored on their server.
STMP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is the protocol for sending emails out of your account to other destinations. It enables your email client to connect to the server of your provider to send outgoing mail, especially to other servers.
Yes. Mailbird uses IMAP or POP3 to connect to most email providers. Mailbird's technology can detect the server settings automatically when you enter your email address.
If it is unable to detect the settings, you can set up your email manually by entering the details your provider has listed for their server settings: like the IMAP or POP3 Port and IMAP or POP3 Security.
You will also need to enter the username and password you have assigned with your email provider.
You can think of the 'port' like an address number. The same way that an IP address identifies the location of a computer, the port identifies the application operating on that computer.
There are a few common port numbers, always use the recommended settings to configure your email server to Mailbird.
If it is important to you to save space on your desktop, or if you're worried about backing up your emails, select IMAP. This means that your emails will be stored on the server of your email provider.
POP3 will download your emails to be stored locally and then delete them from the server. This will free up space on your server, but if anything happens to your local storage, those emails won't be available online. If you are comfortable exclusively having a local copy of your files, POP3 is a viable option.

If your old emails are still available in your account, they will automatically be imported. IMAP protocol syncs your emails and folders with the email server, making it possible to manage your emails on any device that is connected to your account.
Once you add your Yahoo.com account to Mailbird, it will grant you access to your emails immediately, no further action is required.
Note: If your emails are from your local server, it won't be possible to import them because of IMAP protocols.

Mailbird cannot ever read any of your personal information. This includes your emails, attachments, and account passwords. Mailbird is a local client on your computer and all sensitive data is never shared with Mailbird or anyone else.

imap.mail.yahoo.com / port 993 / encryption SSL/TLS Outgoing
smtp.mail.yahoo.com / port 465 / encryption SSL/TLS
Considering you could configure other accounts on your Outlook 2019, there may be no issue on your outlook client, and the issue may be more related to your account itself or the configuration on Outlook.
In this case, it's suggested to go to the Yahoo website from your browser, turn on the two-factor authentication and configure your account with application password in Outlook to check if the issue has any difference. To use the Yahoo Mail SMTP server, you first need to create a dedicated app password. Earlier, you could use your Yahoo Mail password, but Yahoo updated this requirement to improve security. Now, you need to generate a unique app password.
For that reason, we recommend using another free SMTP server if you hit any issues, such as the free Gmail SMTP server or the SendGrid API. These SMTP servers are easier to get working and are just as free as Yahoo Mail (the Gmail SMTP server also supports 500 emails per day for free).
To configure WordPress to send emails via SMTP, you need a WordPress SMTP plugin. There are many great free SMTP plugins, but we recommend the free Post SMTP plugin because it includes all the features you need and makes it easy to debug issues.
To get started, install and activate the free Post SMTP plugin from WordPress.org. Then, go to the new Post SMTP area in your WordPress dashboard and click the Show All Settings link.
If you have a Yahoo Mail account, the Yahoo SMTP server lets you configure your email clients and websites to send emails using your Yahoo Mail account. For configuring an email client, you can also use POP3 or IMAP to import your Yahoo Mail emails to your email client to send and receive emails from the client.
I am trying to copy my Yahoo emails into Outlook 2010. However, when I select to send/receive all folders, only the Inbox will copy to Outlook. All of my other personal folders do not copy. Of course this didn't work using POP3, but I even tried using IMAP and it still won't copy my named folders from Yahoo to Outlook.
IMAP is the best way to connect your Yahoo Mail account to a desktop mail client or mobileapp. It allows 2-way syncing, which means everything you do remotelyis reflected in your Yahoo Mail account no matter where or how youaccess it. Here are the settings you'll need to configure your mailclient or app.
If you're a loyal Yahoo Mail user, you know that Yahoo has already discontinued its email application for Windows 10 and left you only with the web experience. However, if using the web browser is not your style to manage your emails, you can use other solutions like the desktop version of Microsoft Outlook.
Using the Outlook app, you don't only get the most robust inbox with great features to stay productive while managing emails, but it also offers many advantages over the web version of Yahoo. Some of which include a more intuitive interface without annoying ads, rich desktop and Lock screen notifications, Smart Lookup, advanced filters, rules and alerts, and much more.
In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to configure your Yahoo email account using the desktop version of Outlook 2016 available with Office 365, or you can also use these instructions to set up your account on Office 2013.
Alternatively, if you don't like the Yahoo Mail web experience, and you don't have the desktop version of Outlook, you can use the Mail app for Windows 10 to send and receive Yahoo emails using these instructions.

It is possible to utilize Yahoo Mail's web portal and Yahoo Mail account settings to send, receive, organize and manage emails using another email client such as Outlook if you are a user of the service. There is a single application for managing several Yahoo Mail server settings. You may find the SMTP, POP3, and IMAP settings for your selected email software here.Yahoo Mail SMTP SettingsPOP or IMAP for receiving the email doesn't affect your SMTP server settings for outgoing mail. When you add a Yahoo account to your email client, you'll often find the SMTP settings under the Yahoo Mail settings area. Sending a message to Yahoo Mail requires the following information to be entered into the email client: Option Description SMTP Host:
smtp.mail.yahoo.com SMTP Port: 465-SSL or 587-SSL SMTP Username: Your full email address (
na...@domain.com) SMTP Password: Generate App Password
