Introduction to Kumihimo - Ginevra Brandini
Kumihimo is the art of Japanese braid-making that dates as far back as the 7th century. The cords have been used historically to secure clothing, decorate Bhudist temples, and assemble Samurai armor. It wasn't until the late 16th century that kumihimo began to be associated with kimono dressing, and it remains so to this day. This workshop will cover a brief introduction to the historical and modern uses for kumihimo as well as ideas for applications outside of Japanese garb. Students will learn a basic round braid using a modern foam disk. There is no charge to participate in the class and any braids that you make are yours to keep, however, there is a $5 materials fee if you'd like to take the kit home with you.
Calontir COVID rules will be followed for each meeting.
Calontir is following the SCA COVID-safe policies which require ID & proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test result from a medical provider (i.e. no at-home tests accepted) from within the past 72 hours. Masks are not required for fully vaccinated individuals but are encouraged.
