Hi
Just wondering if we have a Github organisation and if not, what do people think about setting one up? As this allow us to easily share and track code / design documents.

We don't yet, but sounds like a really good idea. I'll get one setup tomorrow some time.

Ahh, looks like I did setup a barnsleyio org then as the /barnsleyio one is a previous logo I did so I must have set it up a while ago :)

Let's use the barnsleyio one. Do you need anything doing to be able to use it?

All you need to do is invite me to the organisation, my username is stephenrjohnson.

Btw if anyone want’s a introduction to git, I can give one at the next meeting.

I'll get that sorted for you.

I use git all the time but I'm sure others would appreciate a bit of help so would be great to have you show people.

I'm not at the next meetup (at the pub) but will be back at horizon on the 17th so could be good to do it then on the projector?

Sounds like a plan, if anyone wants an introduction and a quick start guide let me know and I'll arrange a presentation for the 17th.

Any chance we can get a repo for the connect 4 code that Paul has been working on.

Run the site in desktop mode, there should be a button to confirm your invitation.

Starting to see how this works now.

It would be nice to have a few more repo's or the ability to add our own to play around and share stuff in.

So ether just a misc or general one, Or a couple of generic ones for people to just pile stuff into?

I've given everyone here admin rights within the members group which I think should allow you to create repositories.

I would suggest we only use the organisation for libraries that would be considered useful to the group or are group projects like the connect 4 project, not just a dumping ground for test code. Having a github account you can create your own repositories under your own name for stuff like that, then I would suggest only adding it to the group when it could be considered useful for others.

I'd also suggest not creating a "general" respiratory either. Each one should have a single focus. If a member is interested in a piece of code, we don't want them to have to download a ton of other files just to get to it.

Just my thoughts on the subject having used source control for years.

Yes I didn't mean to suggest a dumping ground for code, I can use my own account for that :p
But it will be useful for larger projects if people want help from others and such like.

And the idea of a general repo was just in case you didn't want or were unable to allow us all to make new ones.

Oh and btw Matt I had a quick flick through some of your c# stuff and it looks like some ancient satanic scripture to me lol.

No worries. Just thought I'd share my "Wisdom" :)

And don't worry, it's all satanic scripture to me too :)

I believe you should all have access to invite others into that group. I've invited him never the less.

Me please. I have version 2 posted on here, but don't know how to update it on Git.

Go-to your file on the site, at the top of the file you will see something that says 'blame' and 'history'. There is a little peN icon next to there, that will open the editor and you can copy/pas're your new code in. When you're finished click the 'commit changes' at the bottom to save it all.
alternatively you can make a second file for the improved version.
