Hey All,

For those that saw my voicebox widget at the last meetup (picture attached), it went down really well at the Derby maker faire. A few people asked me if they were for sale, and Dominic at NottingHack thought they'd make a good kit aswell.

I've been spending some time this week designing a custom circuit board and looking at the costs of materials, but thought I'd see what people would actually be prepared to pay as to whether it would be worth while doing?

The kit would be just all the required components, and would require soldering and glueing, so would make for a really nice "intro to soldering" type workshop.

So, wadda you reckon? :)

Once you know how much it costs to make the case and cost of components... then just add about a fiver per kit then whatever it costs to deliver on top.

Get it all down into one board, knobs and those chips in bulk. The main cost will be the wooden boxes I imagine.

I suspect Chris has a point. Work out how far you can Get the costs down at the volume you're wanting then round it to the nearest fiver and add another fiver.

I've done all that, but it's all pointless if it's more than people would expect to pay, hence the question.

What would you EXPECT to pay for something like this?

This similar Velleman kit is around £16 inc VAT, but does not include an enclosure.

So I guess if you add £1 for a knob and £5 for a plastic box, you would be looking around the £20 - £25 mark.

... but the real question is how much would you pay to have your kids stop pestering you to buy one...
