I have created a Windows XP virtual machine for testing purposes. I have now created a new installation ISO that I would like to test. The virtual machine includes a CD/DVD drive that uses an ISO. I pointed that CD/DVD drive to the new ISO and made sure that the drive is at the top of the boot order in the BIOS. When I boot the machine it goes into the Windows XP installation, but then I get the error shown below.

I have found a couple of Web sites which imply that this may be a problem with not having the correct drivers installed. I see this as a possibility because I created the ISO on a machine with SATA drives, but I'm testing it on a machine with IDE drives. My virtual machine has two CD/DVD drives, both configured as IDE, where one uses a physical CD/DVD drive (IDE 1:0) and the other uses the ISO (IDE 0:0).

VMware Virtual Machine is a software that allows you to run multiple operating systems on a single physical machine. You can create, manage, and test virtual machines with different configurations and applications without affecting your main system. In this article, we will show you how to install VMware Virtual Machine 7.0.0 (Build 203739), which is the latest version of the software as of April 2023.

The first step is to download the installation file from the official VMware website[^1^]. You can choose between two options: the main installation file with tools, which is 512 MB in size, or the main installation file without tools, which is 335 MB in size. The tools are additional software that enhance the performance and functionality of your virtual machines, such as VMware Tools, VMware Converter, and VMware Player. If you have a fast internet connection and enough disk space, we recommend downloading the file with tools.

Once the installation is complete, you can launch VMware Virtual Machine from your desktop or start menu. You will see a main window that allows you to create a new virtual machine or open an existing one. To create a new virtual machine, click on File > New > Virtual Machine and follow the wizard that guides you through the steps of choosing an operating system, allocating memory and disk space, and configuring other settings. To open an existing virtual machine, click on File > Open and browse to the location of the virtual machine file (.vmx).

After creating or opening a virtual machine, you can start it by clicking on the green power button on the toolbar or pressing Ctrl+B. You will see a separate window that displays the virtual machine screen, where you can interact with it as if it were a real computer. You can install applications, access files, connect to the internet, and perform other tasks on your virtual machine. You can also use the toolbar buttons or menu options to perform actions such as suspending, resuming, restarting, or shutting down your virtual machine.

VMware Virtual Machine is a powerful and versatile software that lets you run multiple operating systems on a single physical machine. It is easy to install and use, and it offers many features and options to customize your virtual machines according to your needs. If you want to try out different operating systems or test different applications without affecting your main system, VMware Virtual Machine is a great solution for you.

Periodically, the internet simply stops working in my virtual machine, and the only way I can get it working again is to restart the host computer. Since I use the virtual machine specifically for testing web pages, this is, shall we say, a bother.

But it has a side effect. The host machine will not be able to reach the guest on the IP configured on NAT interface. To overcome this, I created a second VMware virtual network adopter(In VMware workstation, Edit->Virtual Network Editor) with host only option and present a second network interface to the guest OS. Now, the host can reach guest on this interface.

As others have stated, VMWare is slow at using graphics functionalities and hard drive access. It can do these things, but it will take a performance hit, so you may want to rethink virtualizing things like a gaming machine, or a database server.

With hardware assisted virtualization support obtained through AMD-V or Intel-VT capable processors and chipsets (motherboards), your VMWare virtual machines, which does support both technologies, will suffer less from performance issues. It's however still a reality that all your VMs can use is what you make available to them. And what you make available to them is limited by your computer computational power and available memory.

VMware Workstation Player is free for personal, non-commercial use (business and nonprofit use is considered commercial use). If you would like to learn about virtual machines or use them at home, you are welcome to use VMware Workstation Player for free. Students and faculty of accredited educational institutions can use VMware Workstation Player for free if they are members of the VMware Academic Program.

i am having the same problem installing it comes up to the apple screen and reboots, But i wonder if i can use the virtual machine in windows 7 pro to do this vs vmware. trying to run version 10.5.7. is there another version i may need to try? my hardware is

The student was trying to install a package on a SLED 11 virtual machine through Yast. For this package Yast needed the SLED 11 DVD. The virtual CD-ROM player was configured as Auto, witch means that the physical CD-ROM player of the host is connected to the virtual CD-ROM player of the virtual machines.

Key Features Include:

  • Run multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single PC.
  • Experience the benefits of preconfigured products without any installation or configuration issues.
  • Share data between host computer and virtual machine.
  • Run both 32 and 64 bit virtual machines.
  • Leverage 2-way Virtual SMP.
  • Use 3rd-party virtual machines and images.
  • Share data between host computer and virtual machine.
  • Broad host and guest operating system support.
  • Support for USB 2.0 devices.
  • Get appliance info at start-up.
  • Gain easy access to virtual machines via intuitive home page interface.

The installation of VMware Tools 8.1.3 build-203739 for Linux completed
successfully. You can decide to remove this software from your system at any
time by invoking the following command:
"/usr/bin/vmtools/vmware-uninstall-tools.pl".

[EXPERIMENTAL] The VMware FileSystem Sync Driver (vmsync) is a new feature that
creates backups of virtual machines. Please refer to the VMware Knowledge Base

I am stuck at step 9. I converted the DMG to an ISO. I select the ISO in vmware and fire up the virtual machine.
I press F8 and when I try to boot the CD (select c), it says that I should enter a MACOSX dvd.

I have tried changing to a dual core vCPU and changed the virtualisation engine a bit, but to no avail. I have also converted the vdisk to a pre-allocated disk to try and speed things up (vmware-vdiskmanager). Still no joy.

i installed snow L successfuly. The first time i installed it the network worked instantly, After i rebooted the network showed an auto ip address. I have tried everything to get it to get back on my network to no avail. What am i missing. it is set to dhcp, the vmware virtual network settings are correct. i dont know how to make this thing work again on the network. But as far as the os function, that it does. From the time i hit the power on to readiness is under a minute!!!! Better than windows 7 on boot!!!! all i need now is how to restore the network to full functionality.

A virtual CPU has entered the shutdown state. This would have caused a physical machine to restart. This can be caused by an incorrect configuration of the virtual machine, a bug in the operating system or a problem in the VMware Workstation software. Press OK to restart the virtual machine or Cancel to power off the virtual machine.

help!
after rebooting Mac OS X, i get this message:

what should i do?
please reply

1) dmg2iso does not work in Windows 7 I have a XP virtual machine and it crashes too;
2) My machine virtualizes, no problem. I have VMWare version 7. When I try to start for the first time a new virtual machine, generated as you suggested, specifically when the darwin.iso starts I receive a message that the operating system has blocked the execution. So I cannot create a Snow Leopard Machine;
3) A friend succesfully generated a Virtual machine with iDeneb 10.5. I can run it in my Alienware with your darwin.iso (the setup.cmd install worked perfectly). The machine is running but with a 40gb hard disk. I have expanded with VmWare the disk, I could generate a Coriolis CD to expand my partition but I could find a way to boot from a CD.

Hi Andrie, don`t know if you still need help, but it seems that it may be that hardware virtualisation may not be enabled in your computers bios settings. Have a look and see. Are you trying to install SL off the SL 10.6.0 dvd? If so, is it the 10a432 version?
Its the best one for AMD cpu`s, and I found it to be successful on my Phenom 2. Also try the snow_leopard_legacy iso, rather than the EFI.
The vmware snow leopard 10.6 (experimental) image may be helpful in the initial setting up.

When creating the virtual machine, accept the recommended setting. This is important for setting that affect the type of virtual hardware that is created because the hardware determines which kernel modules are needed. Settings like the size of memory and the size of the disk do not matter.
