Barleycorn serves up a stellar lineup this coming Monday, May 11th, featuring a journey from soulful solo grooves to high-energy indie rock.
AL Mountain kicks off the evening with a vibrant blend of jazz, rock, and hip-hop grooves designed to bring a little light and a lot of melody to your day. He is followed by Charlie Charles, a seasoned multi-instrumentalist stepping into the spotlight with stripped-back, emotive folk-rock that draws on a decade of touring the country’s biggest stages. On the Edge brings the night to a close, a dynamic three-piece outfit that leans into rock, indie, and rockabilly styles to deliver a lively finale of radio-playlisted originals.

Hailing from a mountainside near Cape Town, AL blends a diverse array of influences to create a unique and vibrant sound on which to carry his message. Armed only with a guitar, AL produces grooves and melodies carrying elements of jazz, rock, hip-hop and more that are sure to get your foot tapping and bring a little light to your day.

Charlie Charles

Charlie Charles is a South African multi-instrumentalist who’s spent the past decade on bass, supporting artists on stages across the country. Now stepping into the spotlight, he’s exploring a more vulnerable side, bringing his own songs to life through stripped-back, emotive folk-rock and carving out his voice as a frontman.
Over the years, he’s cut his teeth in bands like Lost//Youth, Crawling King Snake, The Guy is Alive and Sold Ash. Touring nationally and sharing stages with artists such as Black Cat Bones, Beast, The Narrow, Dan Patlansky, Majozi, Albert Frost, Jesse Clegg & Shakatak. Those years on the road have shaped a versatile, intuitive musician.
Now ready to spread his wings, Charles begins to tell his own story through a stripped-back, emotionally charged folk-rock sound. Marking the start of a deeply personal solo journey. From Love & Loss to dreams and aspirations, he aims to share a message that speaks on how even in the darkest times in this life there’s always worth in trying.

On the Edge is a band for all occasions, having played in shows showcasing their original songs which have been playlisted on various radio stations.
Their musical styles incorporate Rock, Indie & Rockabilly. They’ve also played extensively at venues all around Cape Town at weddings, birthday functions, pubs, sports clubs, etc. The band has an extensive repertoire to cater for a wide variety of music.
This 3 piece outfit is sure to liven up any party and consists of the following members: Rick Drew - ‘Rickabilly’ on drums & vocals, Hilton Milward bass guitar and vocals & Mike Taffinder lead guitar & vocals.
