MAGÉ
--------------------
My name is Magé Troskie. I am a passionate singer songwriter with a hint of boeremeisie. I am a full time music student at M&M Music Academy. For the past 4 years it has been me, my guitar and my stories. I write to remember. I write to forget. I write to forgive.

The stage has been my 2nd home since I was a little girl with a skew fringe. Whether I was singing, acting or pretending to be a sunflower. If I had to describe my music I would say that it’s the type of music that makes you listen with more than just your ears.

My genre is alternative/indie/R&B. I primarily perform my original Afrikaans music but I do love doing covers as well… Big classics of John Lennon and Amy McDonald.

I can’t imagine Magé without music. It’s simply too big part of me to live without. I believe somewhere somehow my music will mean something to someone. Maybe it’ll mean something to you. Trusting the magic of it all.

CARLO FORTUNE
--------------------
Carlo is a born Capetonian whose musical journey began at five years old, when he used to secretly entertain the family puppies by singing songs he had heard on the radio. By his teens his repertoire of all the latest pop tunes and his songbook had grown considerably. Some years later his musical hobby elevated when his sister presented him with his first guitar. He diligently studied the chords and was soon strumming along, mostly to John Denver, The Eagles and Bob Marley.

Writing came soon after. He honed his craft at open mics, playing for close friends and family at gatherings, weddings and funerals, and various small events. He also spent a year singing in the local church choir. In 2022 he was one of five artists who were awarded The Jakes Gerwel Foundation’s Songwriting Mentorship in conjunction with Suidoosterfees, where he performed in a musical extravaganza the following year. He also performed at Reggae Sunsplash 2021 in Stellenbosch, The Annual Bob Marley Festival in Saldahna Bay in 2022 and 2024, as a solo artist as well as lead singer with a seasoned reggae band, The West Coast Wailers, doing Bob Marley covers. But the highlight of 2023 was being awarded 2nd place for the prestigious Annual Barleycorn Songwriting Competition.

Plans are afoot to record an EP in the very near future. He continues to write new material and works on refining his craft.

DAVE STARKE
--------------------
Dave Starke is a Folk singer-songwriter. His creative process is based on “lived art” which entails moving purposefully through life, grappling with the obstacles that arise and then turning them into songs.

A native Capetonian (and former Barleycorn committee member), Dave left the mother city in his 20s to pursue a career as a history teacher in rural Zululand, where he still lives. He took the leap into working full-time as a musician in 2018 and has since released two albums, Duende and Shifting Boundaries. When it comes to performances, Dave is a staunch minimalist known for his delicate guitar technique, warm baritone voice and judicious use of whistling.

Career highlights include two semi-final placings in the UK Song Contest, composing the score for South African feature film The Killing Floor and, most recently, having some of his music used in the television adaptation of Recipes for Love and Murder which aired worldwide in 2022. Dave is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Music and the Environment through the University of the Highlands and Islands.
