Featuring our 2023 Songwriting Competition finalist Clint Brown, Cape Town blues scene stalwarts Southern Brothers Blues, and our headline act The Roundabout Singers tying it all together with their incredible harmonies. Join us for some amazing original, local music!

Clint Brown
--------------------
Clint Brown is no stranger to the Barleycorn stage having performed there at the 2023 Songwriting Competition where he did surprisingly well. Most all of his original compositions are characterised by a quirky, tongue-in-cheek and sometimes romanticized approach to life's everyday whims and challenges.
Despite an idiosyncratic aversion to the use of a cappo, for no apparent reason other than because, as he puts it, no guitar has ever come off the factory line with such a gadget clipped over it's neck, he delivers his material with minimal sound effects which does include a treasured soft red shark fin. He is currently based in the KZN bushveld where he avoids the threat of large cats and the scorching heat in order to continue his creative journey.
Some of his music has in fact been released on platforms such as Distrokid and Spotify, although this is of course the case for many other ambitious troubadours. Much easier therefore to find him on the stage.

Southern Brothers Blues

Southern Brothers Blues is a duo consisting of Jonathan Laing and Ian Gordon (“Snakeman”). Jonathan has paid his dues with "Broken Arrow" and 5 years with Southern Brothers. His powerful vocals have earned him the title of "South Africa's Joe Cocker" whom he has paid tribute to in shows!
Ian is a stalwart of the Cape Town blues scene, having played many venues and blues festivals with his band "Diamondback Blues Band", and as a bassist in "Bluesboy"... not to mention several side projects.
Southern Brothers reunites for Barleycorn, and you can expect Dark country and edgy blues with no holds barred!

The Roundabout Singers

Singing a slightly eclectic mix of songs and Rounds, The Roundabout Singers are a group of people who love singing in harmony, for the joy it brings.
Brought together by Julie Blundell they started a few years ago just singing Rounds once a month, in Julie’s living room. This progressed in the last year or two to singing songs with lovely harmonies, accompanied by guitar.
One of the newest members of the group is singer/songwriter, Gideon Malherbe, also known as Casper Ace. He and Julie (on bass) team up to sing some of his compositions.
