Hello Barleycorn Family
We’re trying out something just a little bit different next Monday at Barleycorn. While we’re still rooted in great songs and attentive listening, we’re opening up more room for connection, collaboration, and the sharing of new work in a more communal, relaxed space. Find out more below!
The first part of the night features a curated trio of songwriters sharing a variety of originals: Werner Bisschoff, an indie-folk artist whose quiet acoustic work focuses on simple imagery and emotional clarity; Patty Price, who shares her heartfelt songs after years of refining her craft; and a special Mystery Artist to keep us on our toes.
The evening continues with Khofhi TheKing, a Mother City singer-songwriter known for his soul-infused vocals and his ability to serenade audiences in both isiXhosa and English. Finally, we welcome the brilliant Sarah Blake, a multi-instrumentalist whose international journey has shaped a "rooted and borderless" sound that blends jazz, soul, and folk with incredible virtuosity.
Doors open 6:30 PM, music kicking off 7:30 PM.

FEATURING:
--------------------
--------------------
Werner Bisschoff
--------------------
Werner Bisschoff is a Cape Town–based indie folk songwriter who started writing songs last year. His acoustic work is quiet and introspective, shaped by repetition, simple imagery, and an interest in emotional clarity.
--------------------
Patty Price
--------------------
Rather late in life, after many years of scribbling lyrics and humming tunes, Patty Price took the plunge and did Clive Ridgway’s Cape Town School of Songwriting course in 2019. This opened up a wonderful world of other songwriters and ideas about how and why to write songs!
Since then, she’s been part of a small group of songwriters who meet online to share songs and give each other feedback. With this encouragement she has written many songs and believes that her songwriting has improved, but still struggles with performance anxiety.
For this Barleycorn appearance she intends to relax and enjoy sharing her simple songs with the audience.

Mystery Artist
--------------------
This one is a bit of a surprise…!
--------------------
Khofhi TheKing
--------------------
Meet Khofhi TheKing, a singer-songwriter from the Mother City, Cape Town, South Africa.
He is best known for his unique vocals that create an incredible soul-infused vibration, and his ability to serenade audiences with his guitar. His undeniable style of incorporating different genres into his music sets him apart from the rest of the musos. He has spent around 10 years harnessing his love for sounds and melodies.
From busking on the streets of Cape Town to playing big festivals, private events, and online shows, he has done it all. Most of his music is written in both his home language, isiXhosa, and English. The songs he writes are enjoyed by all ages and can range from acoustic storytelling to electronic beats. He also produces his own music as a self-taught music producer.
--------------------
Sarah Blake
--------------------
Sarah Blake is a Cape Town–born vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose genre-blending music draws from jazz, soul, folk, and groove traditions. Whether anchoring the rhythm on upright bass or delivering searing vocals from behind a guitar, Sarah leads with disarming charm and fierce musicality.
She studied jazz composition at the South African College of Music, continued her training in New York, and later spent three years living and performing in the Netherlands, where she honed her voice as a songwriter and performer. Her international journey has shaped a sound that feels both rooted and borderless — intimate yet expansive.
Her discography includes the debut EP The Journey, the album Food for Thought, and an upcoming EP slated for release in early 2026. Much of her work grapples with love, grief, transformation, and connection — stories that resonate widely and cut deep.
Sarah brings both virtuosity and vulnerability to the stage. With every performance, she offers more than just music — she offers presence, poetry, and a story that audiences carry long after the final note.
