Brendan Larter:
-----------------

Growing up in the 80s/90s in Gonubie, Eastern Cape was a privilege to say the least. Constantly surrounded by good music, good waves and great musicians was what lead me down a treacherous yet rewarding path of music and performing. I come from a great family of 3 brothers and my older brother Craig got involved early on with music too and the first to get a guitar.

I always gravitated towards the guitar and there was always one somewhere, whether we were at the beach, a friends house, son surf, church or watching a punk rock band practice in an old garage. My first band was in 1998 called'Tinfoil' a punk rock band. I played bass guitar in this group and thoroughly enjoyed it, but not as much as the guitar. To this day I have always been playing an acoustic duo act as The Larter Brothers with Craig.

A few years on I was performing with my late best friend Dusty Hare. We studied sound together in Cape Town in 03/04. Dusty was a one of a kind extremely talented musician and played as many instruments as he could find. We were performing acoustic duo gigs at home in the holidays and open mic sessions in Cape Town. Once studies were finished we then formed a band called THEM, an African acoustic funk rock outfit that was destined for big things. That didn't work out as we all needed real jobs and careers to follow. I then headed to Johannesburg to work in the Audio Visual Industry as an AV technician setting up sound and lighting for large and small events. I had some musician friends from home there and we started another band called 'The Breakers', possibly my favourite band to date, the sounds of fresh melodic funkadelic reef rock is what emulated  from this group of mates. Unfortunately that also didn't work out because - life!

From there I eventually got back to Cape Town and started working on my solo career. Never really had the confidence for singing but I had to grind through it and figure it out, although you never stop figuring it out. I have now been living in Cape Town for 10years working in the post production industry. In 2016 I released my first album - Remember to Think, which I produced, recorded, mixed and mastered myself, something I will never do again. It was not my best work but I released it anyway.

None the less a great learning experience! While transitioning my new business I joined the Jan Blohm band as the lead guitarist and live engineer for a few tours before lockdown. I currently run my own sound studio - Audio Bits - where I compose and mix films and commericals and, most importantly, produce my own music. The Darkness is my first single I've recently produced from my studio, so have a listen. Cheers.

The Flat Mountain Collective
-----------------------

Flat Mountain Collective comprises a small group of musicians who got together in 2020
during the Covid-19 lockdown. The group has three founding members, and a brief bio of
each member is included below. Their musical influences are vast and varied, and over time the collective will expand to include other like-minded muso’s. While their aim is to
ultimately produce original music, they are, for now, arranging interesting songs in a way
that suits their strengths. The group has strong folk, blues, rock and jazz influences.

Björn Armstrong
Björn is a guitarist who hails from Germany. He started the 5-piece rock band Diggler`s
Delight in 2001 in Hamburg. In 2008, his deep-rooted love for blues rock saw him form the Björn Armstrong Band, a powerful trio that took on a musical journey from Hendrix to
Madonna. Björn is an accomplished lead guitarist whose influences are vast. He has distilled and blended these into a unique style that uses the spaces between the notes beautifully. More recently has rediscovered his love of acoustic guitar.

Niamh Ahern
Niamh started her musical journey at about four years old, playing and singing blues, folk
and rock in her father’s studio. She is a multi-instrumentalist who plays piano, bass, cello,
guitar and vocals. She has played in assorted rock bands, jazz ensembles and orchestras. Locally, she has performed in Cape Town, Grahamstown, George and Wilderness, and internationally in Ireland in Cork, Youghal and Ardmore. She is registered to read cello at UCT in 2021. She brings a fabulous youthful energy to the group.

Dan Ahern
Dan is a guitarist, harmonica player & vocalist. He has played and performed with assorted rock, blues and folk bands as a vocalist, harpist and finger-style guitarist. Dan founded The Dead Cat Bounce in 2000 in South Africa. The group consisted of musicians who work in the financial markets. They spent eight years performing throughout South Africa, raising R4 million for children’s charities over the period. Dan has also performed in Cork, Dublin, London, Hong Kong, Qingdao, New York and Nice to name a few.
