Regionsare more buildable land. They operate as satellite cities, each with it's own theme. At first there were 3 regions, Green Valley, Limestone Cliffs, and Cactus Canyon but later 2 more were added, Frosty Fjords, and Sunny Isles. Each region has its own Residential Building, Industrial Building, Commercial Building, Items, upgradable hot spot specializations, regional service, Epic Building, tree variant and regional currency. Every region also has an Export HQ where you can earn Regional Simoleons quickly and efficiently. They all have their own Trade Depot, Global Trade HQ and Contest of Mayors Tower. Each region has an increased demand for a specific service as well. After unlocking a region you can build an additional Maxis Manor.

I just want to ask about the exact folder that contain the regions in SimCity 4, is it the regions folder in My Documents or the one that in the game folder, becuase I need to transfer some regions from a friend PC to mine.

The game loads the regions in the My Documents folder. Those regions in the folder in the Program Files region folder are the default regions loaded when the game is installed. They can be used as backups if you ever want to replace a region with a new one from scratch. If you want to get cities from your friend that have already been developed, use the My Documents regions. Hope this helps...

Plugins are any items placed in the My Documents/SimCity4 /Plugins folder. When you download custom content, they are placed in the Plugins folder to show up in the game. The term 'plugins' is used to refer to these items. To place your friend's 'plugins' into your game, copy the items in his/her Plugins folder and paste it into yours. Or you can rename your entire Plugins folder (to something like PluginsTemp) and copy his/her entire folder into your SimCity 4 folder. Hope this makes sense...

A bit more... As Swat-Medic said, don't change the names of the regions in the Program Files Region folder. The game uses these as a kind of backup in case something happens to the My Documents Regions folder. What you can do is copy/paste (not move) any of the regions in the Regions folder into another location (like your desktop), rename it, and place it in the My Documents Regions folder. You will also need to open the text file in the region folder (called 'region') and change the 'name' line to NAME = *new name* where the new name is what you changed the region name to (not doing this will result in more than one region with the same name in game). You can do this as often as you want with the same region. Hope this helps...

But we still need your support to stay online. If you're able to, please consider a donation to help us stay up and running. This helps sustain a platform where we can share our community creations for years to come.

By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

The 'Total Population' number under City Hall correctly displays the population across regions. But the Daily income does not increase until we upgrade a building the Capital City. The number of people in other regions dont matter. Anyone knows how to collect taxes from other regions too? I checked, there is no option to build City Hall in regions.

@EternalOptimist5 Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately you can not collect taxes in your regions. Each region has its own unique currency with no exchange rate structure in place although requiring simoleons to support all infrastructure support (fire, police, medical, etc.) and expansion (land, beach, mountain & storage). From a pure economic perspective, the regions are simply a financial burden on your city and goes against the base logic of city building games and in particular Simcity. I shared this premise previously in the forum, but as of now no changes have been implemented.

With that said once you have exhausted building your capital city it does provide an opportunity to continue developing without having to start a 2nd city. There are some interesting buildings and themes you can pursue but remember your capital city is funding the project. Good luck!

Thank you @PinnacleValley . They should implement the change to collect taxes from all regions. Otherwise there is no economic point in developing other regions until we start getting a steady flow of income from capital.

Not that long ago, SimCity 4 was resurrected. It became alive on Steam, a game you could buy anddownload and play and enjoy. I recently tried it - but not as you think. I actually installed it in Linux, using the Proton compatibility layer, andthings were swell. Which brought about some sweet memories.

I had spent months of my time creating a beautiful mega-region, with 4.5 million people in some 60+cities. This endeavor took a lot of work, I was using half a dozen mods to make SimCity 4 do some extrawonders for me, and once I was done, I copied my game save into a special backup folder. I didn't wantto lose such a precious achievement. That was 2008-ish or so. Now, I had the game on Steam, but howdoes one go about loading those old region saves?

Back in the day, SimCity 4 was a blazing modern title that had its own funky built-in screenshottool, and it saved everything into your My Documents folder. On Steam - and especially on Linux - thismeta-folder isn't a reality. Now, if you browse the local game files, you will indeed see the defaultregions there, and if you copy your old save over ... well, nothing will happen.

You can then explore this tree like you would any drive C: on Windows. Steam users the "steamuser"account, so this would be where My Documents, My Music and other similar folders are located. Copy andpaste any content you like here, and the games should use it.

Here we go, a fairly basic and straightforward tutorial. On the other hands, things aren't reallytrivial, because the Steam (Proton) version of the game has a virtual drive C: path, and in there, youwill find the expected My Documents location. Now you can revive the olden glory of your past escapadesin SimCity 4.

As I mentioned in my state of Linux gaming mini-review from a few weeks back, this also applies tomods. You can put the Windows binaries in the Plugins folder, and they should - largely - work. Youwill be able to enhance the basic game functionality as you feel like. Very cool. So I'm wondering, given how few things I have on my plate, if I should carve out a fresh chunk of my life and commit toyet another months-long session in this awesome game. Well, take care.

SimCity 3000 has the same concept as its predecessor but has been expanded. Players can now rename other cities and there are more deals the player can make with other cities. However, the player can not request deals, and if they are cancelled without the other mayor's consent, the city will receive a termination fee, which can vary.

The player now has full control of the region in SimCity 4. Rather than focusing on a single city with neighboring towns, regions in SimCity 4 focus on the entire region at once, with players being able to switch cities at will.

There are three plot sizes in SimCity 4, with the smallest being 1x1km, medium being 2x2km, and the largest being 4x4km. Although this is no longer supported, players could also play a mutiplayer region via SimCityscape and were able to make deals with other players.

There are 8 different available regions at SimCity (2013)'s launch. Unlike previous games, regions are not customizable. The largest-sized regions have 16 cities and 4 great works. The other two regions, Cliffside Vista and Endeavor Island, are not available under normal circumstances.

I will say up front that, unfortunately, SC4 has not been great for me at interpreting a height map generated straight from a 3D program. I will share what ultimately worked for me but maybe others will find new methods with further experimentation.

The three colors that represent regions in SC4 are Red, Green and Blue. Since we only need to worry about making a Small region (as that is the only size that works with TS2) then we only need to use Red which is the color for a Small.

We all know how to make custom maps for TS2, right? Load up SC4, find a small city and then painstakingly use the janky tools to create a map that works for you while not being able to undo if you make mistakes or see your map in anything other than an isometric view.

I got really annoyed thinking about this because, for my new game, I want my map to look very specific dammit! I hate working in SC4 and then fucking something up because I sneezed and never getting it to look the same ever again.

Occasionally, though, players have asked, why not simply allow the actual .sc4 city files and regions onto the exchange, whether they be blank maps, or perhaps even cities that have already been built? There are a few reasons for this, but one of the main ones is a logistical one: file size.
