Don't let low self-esteem rule your life - overcome it fast with easy practical steps. Low self-esteem can affect every area of our lives. It can be a horrible curse to live with, but thankfully one that can be beaten. Updated for 2020, Jennifer Alison's Self-Esteem: Fast Proven Treatment for Recovery from Low Self-Esteem is a much-praised international best-seller thanks to its practical and easy-to-implement advice.

The much-anticipated fourth edition of the best-selling classic by Matthew McKay, Self-Esteem is the go-to guide for those seeking to increase their sense of self-worth. This fully revised new edition features an innovative application of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to self-esteem and utilizes updated cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help listeners create positive change and thrive.

In this series of talks, author and internationally renowned self-esteem expert Dr Melanie Fennell describes how poor self-esteem develops and what keeps it going, and sets out effective strategies based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help you to overcome it.

This chapter has outlined a cognitive model of low self-esteem and a cognitive-behavioral treatment program based upon it. It has considered the value of independent self-help assignments (homework) at each stage in therapy, and concluded by identifying practical issues that need to be taken into account when working to enhance self-esteem.

Melanie Fennell's acclaimed self-help guide will help you to understand your low self-esteem and, armed with this knowledge, break out of the vicious circle of negative self-image, learning the art of self-acceptance and altering your life for the better.

Melanie Fennell is the author of Overcoming Low Self-Esteem and Overcoming Low Self-Esteem Self-Help Course. One of the UK's leading expert's on low self-esteem, she is currently Director of an advanced cognitive therapy course, a collaboration between Oxford Development Centre (OCTC) and Oxford University. One of the first clinician researchers to introduce cognitive therapy to the UK, she was a founder member of the OCTC, an internationally recognised centre of excellence in cognitive therapy and training.

To begin with, a guest author explains the history, meaning and relevance of cognitive therapy. This is followed by Melanie Fennell focusing on "Low Self Esteem" as an introduction to the main body of the book. The reader is then asked to participate in a self-assessment exercise. Having proven to have low self esteem, the reader is shown not only the impact self-esteem can have on their lives, but also many of the resultant issues--physical, emotional and social.

"Having cleared the ground", the author proceeds to explain the importance of and means to identifying triggers to bouts of low self-esteem. This can be as a long-established predilection or as the result of learned behaviour. Once this is achieved, Fennell goes on to advise ploys to overcome these triggers.

There follows a reinforcement to overcoming the triggers by the use of a Daily Action Diary (DAD), where the reader plans their daily routine. Once these "tasks" have been accomplished, they can be ticked off, proving not only self worth by achievement but also acting as a self-distracter.

This is a very useful book that achieves its stated aims of explaining the nature of low self esteem and self- destructive thinking, providing a complete self-help programme and monitoring sheets and basing its advice on clinically proven techniques of cognitive therapy. -- Peter Kidd, trained Community Psychiatric Nurse
