Bareos File Daemon plugin "bareos-filedaemon-mariabackup-python-plugin" not running for the remote MariaDB Server

Hello,

i'd like to back up a remote MariaDB server using the Bareos File Daemon plugin "bareos-filedaemon-mariabackup-python-plugin" via the "mariadb-backup" command. I've read that this is only possible if the database server and the "mariadb-backup" tool are running on the same server. Is that correct? Since the Bareos server is usually not installed on the same server as the database server, would that mean that this plugin "bareos-filedaemon-mariabackup-python-plugin" can't be used at all? Does that mean I would have to back up all databases remotely via dump using Bareos? That would be very cumbersome. Have I understood this correctly? Regards, Stefan Harbich

The plugin is dedicated to FD so you should use and have a bareos-filedaemon installed where your database are located.

Hope this clarify the situation.

By any chance if you found another formulation how to describe the plugin, I'm fine to include your proposal in a PR to update the documentation.

I think you're answering a different question from the one that's been asked ;-)

Yes, the plugin is an FD-plugin but as I understand the question it was about whether you can do something like:

(bareos dir, sd and so on) <--------> (bareos fd with the plugin) <-------- (mariadb server)

In other words, calling out from the host with bareos FD and the plugin installed to yet another external host for the backup.

You can provide your own my.cnf file for the mariadb-backup tool called by the plugin so you might try specifying your remote host there. (haven't tested this one myself though)
