Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing difficulties installing the Bareos client on a Windows Server Core 2022. I've tried installing both the minimal version and the version that includes Tray Monitor and plugins, but neither attempt was successful.

Here are the details:

  • Download Source: I downloaded the client from https://download.bareos.org/current/windows/.
  • Installation Process: The installation completes without errors, and a Bareos folder is created in the Program Files directory.
  • Issue: After installation, the client does not start. I've attempted to launch it, but nothing happens.
  • Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
    • Uninstalled and reinstalled the client multiple times.
    • Tried both the minimal and full versions.

Despite these efforts, the Bareos client still fails to start. Has anyone encountered a similar issue or can provide guidance on how to resolve this?

Hi Admir,

I didn't do a test on core, but on normal vm it works, you mention core and tray-monitor ?

Could you give it a try if it was not exactly that one ?

Hi Bruno,

sorry for the late reply.

Yes, I used exactly that version (Bareos-24.0.1~pre27.250812184-x64-Release.exe), but I managed to successfully install version 22 instead.

Best regards,
Admir

I also had trouble installing bareos-fd, sd and tray-monitor on Windows Server. Visual c++ dependancies was not installed, service did not start, error messages and stuff.
Then I tried to install the cross-compiled version, and it worked perfectly. Might give it a shot.

Bareos 22 is out of support for community. Either you help newer to get fixed, either you lived on obsolete software.

Hi, would be super cool to precisely note what is missing, what steps you needed to finally get it working.
You can open either a discussion or an issue, to document the missing part.
I'm telling this, because in 12 years here I never seen a global rumble complain be transformed in proper patch and fix :-)

Beware the cross-compiled version will be stopped at next version.
