Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has attempted to setup Bareos as centralized backup system that would backup multiple computers at multiple locations across the internet to a centralized SD. I run a small MSP company and am looking for a open source method of providing backups to my customers.

Anyone ever try this?

Hi Matthew,

yes we do that in some special cases.
One is a company with two own data centers located in one city with direct fiber uplink and one data center where they are hosting some server and services. This data center is ca. 160 kilometers far away from the other two data centers.

Second example. We have a customer who have split up his server infrastructure over a few IaaS providers. In on of the IaaS provider we are running bareos and it works like a charm.

Yes it is possible as long as you have enough bandwidth ;)
You have to think about your backup windows, data encryption and encrypted data transfers.

Thanks for the input Marco,

Bandwidth is the part that worries me. Most of our clients are small businesses and they use the generic last mile solution that is available to them. Plus the average bandwidth I have to play with is only 20 Mbs. Up to this point, we rely heavily of delta backups just to be able to get the data offsite. Might have to wait till the delta plugin is more mature.

Thanks again!
