NDMP Label Error

I am trying to label a tape via NDMP (I can see the drive etc in status=storage.

I get this message every time:

Label command failed for Volume Ontap_Weekly_1.
Do not forget to mount the drive!!!

So I try to mount the tape and get this:

NdmpAutochangerVolumeOperation: operation mount, drive 0, slot -1

This is a standalone drive attached via SAS to a NetApp filer (9.8)

there is not a multichanger attached.

Can anyone help me?  Im more than happy to post logs etc if needed.
