Hi,

I am just wondering if this is a configuration issue or if this behaviour is the current state?
Using a tape changer, when I send a label barcode command, the tape in the drive is unloaded and a different one is loaded for labeling. Later the unloaded tape is loaded again and labeled.
This does not make sense to me?
Best regards and thanks in advance,
Otto

hm. til now, when re-using a tape, i deleted the volume, purged it using mt weof and re-labeled the barcode in bconsule

maybe I should re-think this...

That is expected, when you label it it also writes a baroes header to the tape. You almost never re-label a tape but rather purge and recycle as things expire. So it’s a onetime setup. BTW other tape systems I have used same behavior. Brock Palen bro...@mlds-networks.com www.mlds-networks.com Websites, Linux, Hosting, Joomla, Consulting

hm...
I have my tapes organised in pools. if I purge a volume, how can I re-assign it to a particular pool? hmm...

Oh yeah at most just do purge volume=<volume> That’s it it iwll become a candidate for reuse. Brock Palen bro...@mlds-networks.com www.mlds-networks.com Websites, Linux, Hosting, Joomla, Consulting

You can use the relabel command.

Or if you want to do it automatically look at the concepts of recycle pool and scratch pool in the documentation. This is preferred.
