Hi,

I have a question about Virtual Full backups.

Do Virtual Full backups only work if you use the Always Incremental methodology?

Currently, my backups are in a standard structure:

pool-full
pool-inc
pool-dif

I would just like to make a full backup to another storage location, off-site.

Thanks.

No, you can do virutal fulls whenever, it’s basically a full but on the server only and not fed from the client.

It will then replace all your incrementals etc. So what I do which I think you are trying to do is when they run you update them to be an archive job, sot hey are not part of the consolidation process for always incremental, or cause other issues.

https://docs.bareos.org/TasksAndConcepts/AlwaysIncrementalBackupScheme.html#virtual-full-jobs

It works just fine with any job type, I have a monthly job that runs one of these for each high value client to a different tape pool and then I eject.

The part I don't understand is that in the traditional backup format, I don't have a job to consolidate incremental backups, and in the Virtual Full examples, it seems to pull from the consolidated pool.
