Hi,
since about 8 years or so I used IBM or dell autoloaders with LTO3 and LTO4 tapes and self-printed labels.
Now, I switched to a HPE 1/8 G2 model and many of the tapes are not recognised any more.
As we have the same loader in my company and the same problems there, I wonder if anyone knows a solution.
I tried two or three online label generators, but this is a lottery. Does anyone maybe know why and what the problem is or has some hints?
Would be REALLY helpful as pre-printed LTO labels are REALLY expensive and I have many tapes which are full already and not recognised any more :-(
Best regards and thanks in advance,
Otto

Hi Otto,

that sounds like a bad barcode reader. However, HP will probably insist
you buy their overpriced labels before they agree that reader is broken...

What I can tell you about LTO labels is:
* paper and printing must be non-glossy
* good contrast is important (glossy shining black bars are a no-go)
* if you fail with different labels on different label-materials, try
another printer
* the label must end in L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, L6, L7, L8, L9, LT, LU, LV,
LW, LX, LY, M8, or LZ
* barcode bars must be at least 11mm high
* the "quiet zone" left and right of the barcode should be empty and
larger is better
* when you generated a PDF make sure it matches your page-size (DIN/ISO
vs. US formats) and you print without any scaling
* try to avoid paper labels, go with polyester or sth. like that

Best Regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

thanks for your hints! it seemed to be the paper. now I bought some really expensive AVERY Zweckform L4775 labels and these labels are readable.
weird.
Thanks a lot anyway!
Otto
